As PoPville gets ready to celebrate our 20 year anniversary this November, I’m gonna lean into historical posts a bit leading up to the party. It occurred to me that I (and we collectively) have a LOT of institutional knowledge. So why not share it from time to time? But mostly because these are just fun to remember! So a ‘Dose of DC History’ is born.
This trivial pursuit question that we first posted back in 2009 is simply stunning:
“What major U.S. city closed its post office at 14th Street and Irving because rodents were eating the mail, in 1998?”
hahaha Columbia Heights represent!! Yikes.
In another dose of dc history, here’s a little video from our IG that we’ll be doing weekly: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Just wanted to share the Brompton Junction in Georgetown closed just before Christmas–close to zero notice for staff, and none whatsoever to loyal customers. Learned myself 12/28 when I was going to stop in the shop only to discover the remodel already underway…quite a shock!” (more…)

“Signage is up for a new juicery called “La Jugueria” – exciting addition to 11th St in a long vacant property!”
Back in June 2025 we learned that:
“Medical Cannabis Retailer, DC Garden Hill, coming to the long vacant space on 11th Street in Columbia Heights but a juice shop will be on the first floor and the medical cannabis retailer will be located upstairs.”
Scuttlebutt confirmed!
STAY TUNED for more on both.
