“The Last Ride: A Farewell to the DC Streetcar” This Sunday on H Street, NE!

From an email:

“After nearly a decade rolling along H Street NE, the DC Streetcar is nearing its final stop. On Sunday, March 29, the public is invited to gather for “The Last Ride,” a send-off that leans into humor, nostalgia, and just a little bit of chaos.

Hosted at Gallery O on H from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the free event brings together neighbors, artists, and the streetcar-curious for an evening of live music, drinks, and the opportunity for questionable open mic eulogies.

Live performances by Jonny Grave and Terry Boes will set the tone, alongside a cash bar and a crowd ready to reflect, roast, and remember.

Since launching in 2016 along H Street NE and Benning Road, the DC Streetcar has held a unique place in the city’s identity, part transit system, part conversation piece, and fully embedded in the story of a changing corridor.

“The Last Ride” invites Washingtonians to mark the moment together, not as a loss, but as a chapter worth acknowledging.

“Gallery O on H chose the 1300 block because it was originally designated as the Art and Entertainment district of the street,” said Steve Hessler, co-owner of Gallery O on H. “The impact of the pandemic may have slowed things down, but it’s time to bring the fun back. We’re not celebrating the loss of the Streetcar, we’re celebrating that it was here for 10 years. Join us for the send-off for ‘The Streetcar Named Retired.’”

Gallery O on H is owned by longtime DC residents Steve Hessler and Mary Ellen Vehlow, both active contributors to the neighborhood’s creative community.

The event is free and open to the public.
