I’d be lying if I didn’t say this thing has been troubled since day one. Actually well before day one. And SOME folks really liked it. And had it been implemented differently this could’ve been an actual game changer. But for those who weren’t here in those days, the Streetcar buzz absolutely injected excitement and more life and certainly had an impact on H Street, NE’s revival. But there were troubles. OH there were troubles. But no need to kick someone when they’re down. So Streetcar – Farewell. Many miles of words were typed about you. You WILL be remembered. And who knows, maybe one day… (more…)

From an email:

“After nearly a decade rolling along H Street NE, the DC Streetcar is nearing its final stop. On Sunday, March 29, the public is invited to gather for “The Last Ride,” a send-off that leans into humor, nostalgia, and just a little bit of chaos.

Hosted at Gallery O on H from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, the free event brings together neighbors, artists, and the streetcar-curious for an evening of live music, drinks, and the opportunity for questionable open mic eulogies. (more…)

Yesterday was another very dark day for DC’s hometown paper the Washington Post. There is near universal agreement that this is a disaster for DC’s media coverage. There is also much pain over (basically) losing one of the best sports sections ever. Not to mention the reduction of foreign staff/bureaus. Just brutal. For the immediate future, we will concentrate on areas that demonstrate authority, distinctiveness, and impact and that resonate with readers: politics, national affairs, people, power and trends; national security in DC and abroad; forces shaping the future including science, health, medicine, technology, climate, and business; journalism that empowers people to take action, from advice to wellness; revelatory investigations; and what’s capturing attention in culture, online, and in daily life.
