We received the first report at 10:09pm last night (Wednesday):

“Seriously, what’s with the explosion sounds (similar to a generator blowing) that we’ve heard several times in Fort Totten? The power has gone out several times again.”

“Same! We are without power near Fort Totten metro – two or three huge booms tonight. Same thing earlier this morning, but luckily power just flickered then.”

“The loud bangs are continuing. In the past the loud bangs came first, then we lost power. Tonight I only heard the bangs after we lost power. Intermittent sirens somewhere nearby.”

“It’s a transformer or some power line on 12th between Allison and Buchanen, it’s been exploding every couple days. Pepco was working on it earlier today after it happened, but just happened again minutes ago” Read More

via FB “Raising money for families displaced by house fire at 1st Place NE”

Thanks to Daria for sharing the fundraiser:

“Several of my dear friends including and their 4 year old daughter, as well as our amazing friend Tony have been displaced by the large fire that took place early on Friday morning at 1st Pl NE. Giselle, who is an incredible friend and pediatric PT (and known as Gafanhota to her capoeira community), had to jump from a 3rd story window and suffered a broken pelvis, vertebrae, and arm. Both the Green family and Tony have been displaced by this event and are without the vast majority of their belongings due to smoke damage. We’re raising money to help them out as many expenses as possible over the coming months.” Read More

Many of my neighbors are elderly and in the “at risk” population by age, and don’t need strangers knocking on the door during a global pandemic. Nor do any of us for that matter! Read More
