Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

Like Love in the Time of Cholera, but less magical realism as we live in DC so lets be real. I was walking at the bottom of Meridian Hill/Malcolm X park; you were sitting alone on the edge of where the last pool would be if it had water in it, wearing a delightful summer dress and had blonde hairish. I was wearing maroon running shorts and a black tee shirt with black hair. You gave me a delightful smile and I returned one. I noticed a look as I looked backed as I walked away and then walked to the top of the fountain. Upon descending back down to wear you were to say hello, you were gone. Love in the Time of Covid-19 still has magic to it, at least I hope.

Poetically yours,
David”

Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Khale is wonderful six-year-old tuxedo cat, and she is as cool as a cucumber. She loves to cuddle and sit on your lap while you do work, and she is very comfortable being around people. She adjusts quickly to her surroundings, and she’s very comfortable to just lounge around while you do work around the house.

Khale is diabetic, so she does get daily insulin shots, but she doesn’t bat an eye and is very agreeable to them, taking it easily as she eats her food. Khale likes attention and will butt her head into you for some head scratches, but other than that, she is very low-maintenance. She’ll do well in any household that wants to have her around!

Interested in going on a virtual date with Khale? Email your application and a photo of your I.D. to [email protected] and an adoptions team member will get back to you about the next steps. Adoptions are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Toby Taco is an incredibly sweet dog, very gentlemanly and well trained. His favorite hobbies include sleeping under piles of blankets, licking peoples faces, and staring attentively at you. He is an incredibly calm dog, good with people though he likes to bark at other dogs.

He is no fuss at all, and is actually pretty funny. Great lap dog, and incredibly easy to take care of. He is potty trained but his old age means he needs to go out 4-5 times a day. He is NOT a fan of walks and running down a short hallway to go out is about all the energy he has in him. He gets his business done and then likes to go back inside.

He would be perfect for a calm lifestyle, but can also benefit from some youthful energy!

“Dear PoPville,

We recently learned that we need to replace our slate roof! What we originally thought might be a minor repair (wishful thinking), actually called for a full replacement. We’ve received one estimate so far ($11k), and are waiting on a second. We realize this will be a pricey repair, no matter how you slice it. Nonetheless, any suggestions from your readers for honest, and reasonable roofers would be greatly appreciated!”
