“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced today that she will retire at the end of this term.

“I’ve had the privilege of representing the District of Columbia in Congress since 1991. Time and again, D.C. residents entrusted me to fight for them at the federal level, and I have not yielded,” Norton said. “With fire in my soul and the facts on my side, I have raised hell about the injustice of denying 700,000 taxpaying Americans the same rights given to residents of the states for 33 years.

“The privilege of public service is inseparable from the responsibility to recognize when it’s time to lift up the next generation of leaders. For D.C., that time has come. With pride in all we have accomplished together, with the deepest gratitude to the people of D.C., and with great confidence in the next generation, I announced today that I will retire at the end of this term.”

As an illustration, Mass Ave south of Sheridan Circle has only two narrow lanes carved out in either direction and at times there is still packed snow or ice on the entire surface. Status: Office Closure

Federal Offices in the Washington, DC area are Closed. Maximum Telework is in effect.

Telework Employees are expected to work. Generally, telework employees may not receive weather and safety leave.

Remote Workers are expected to work. Generally, remote workers may not receive weather and safety leave.

Non-Telework Employees generally will be granted weather and safety leave for the number of hours they were scheduled to work. However, weather and safety leave will not be granted to employees who are on official travel outside of the duty station or on an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS) day off or other non-workday.

Emergency Employees are expected to report to their worksite unless otherwise directed by their agencies.

Employees on Preapproved Leave (paid or unpaid) or other paid time off generally should continue to be charged leave or other paid time off and should not receive weather and safety leave.”

From WMATA:

“Due to ongoing weather impacts and road conditions across the region, Metro will suspend all Metro Bus service at midnight tonight. No overnight bus service will be available.

Metro will operate modified service on Tuesday, Jan. 27, continuing to assess conditions throughout the day and expand service as safety allows.

JUST IN: “DC Public Schools Closed on Tuesday, January 27, DC Government to Open at 10AM”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced DC Public Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 27. Families with students enrolled at a public charter school should expect to hear directly from their school and can also check here to see if their school has changes to their operating posture.

DC Government will open at 10:00 a.m. Supervisors are encouraged to allow liberal leave for employees due to weather conditions.

DC Public Library (DCPL) will open the following locations from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, Mt. Pleasant Library, Tenley-Friendship Library, Anacostia Library, Lamond-Riggs/Lillian J. Huff Library, Woodbridge Library, Dorothy I. Height/Benning, and Southwest library. (more…)
