475 H Street, NW
Thanks to Eric for sending: “Looks like there’s some movement at the old Chinatown Coffee shop. The “for lease” signs were removed from the windows and there were people working on it this past weekend. I peeked in and the counter was removed. Any tips on what’s coming in?”
Chinatown Coffee closed in 2019 after 10 years here.

From the Mayor’s Office:
“Ahead of Frederick Douglass’ birthday on February 14, Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that the District’s new bridge bearing his name is expected to open October 1, 2021. DDOT further honors Frederick Douglass and Black History Month with the release of Frederick Douglass Builds a Bridge, an interactive video for school-aged children that explains the process of building a bridge. “130 years ago, the Baltzley brothers built Glen Echo Park from the fortune made by an egg beater patent. It was initially conceived as a center for adult education. In 1911, it became a popular amusement park until its closure in 1968. During the summer of 1960, a group of Howard University students, among other brave individuals, successfully protested the segregated Glen Echo Amusement Park despite the threats from many angry mobs. Today, Glen Echo Park is an arts and cultural center managed by the National Parks Service. It is known for its Art Deco architecture, Spanish ballroom, and the original 100-year-old Dentzel Carousel.”
At some point a lot of guys realize they don’t really have a friend group anymore.
Not in a dramatic way. Friends move away, people get busy, and actually seeing the same guys regularly almost never happens.
If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by a volunteer who compiles these pets weekly from local shelters.

Nothing “wascally” to see here, folks! Just a laid-back love bug who will make himself comfortable on your lap while you work from home; he’s even fine being picked up. He might just charm your co-workers with the occasional cameo appearance during video calls. Rascal is a master hunter of strings and likes to have a few good rounds of play per day. If you don’t get there first, he will let you know he wants to play by tapping you politely but firmly on the shoulder. He likes to sleep in his person’s bed at night and will wait patiently for you to get up in the morning before asking for food. Rascal is a confident guy who doesn’t spook easily and isn’t at all shy. Just an all-around great cat. If you want to be the lucky one to snap him up, please email [email protected]

Hey there! My name is Skype…why do they call me that? Probably because I love to say Hi to everyone, whether they walk on two legs or four.
I get lots of comments wherever I go because people love my short stubby legs and my spotted face. I’ve shared living space with lots of doggie roommates and do well as long as they don’t get too bossy. I’m not a big fan of being told what to do. I also like children but they get me over-stimulated with loud noises and fast movements, so I’d prefer a house with older kids that know how to respect a dog’s boundaries.
I absolutely love to run and play in water. I hope my new family has a lake, or a river, or a plastic swimming pool, or even a water hose? Surprisingly though, I’m afraid to walk through puddles on the sidewalk or go out in the rain.
My second favorite hobby is to ride shotgun in the car. I’m always excited to go to new places and I’ve been working really hard on my self control to remain calm, so I hope you can help me continue to learn. I’ve gotten pretty good, but I still lose my head whenever a loud motorcycle drives by!
I love to eat! I spend most of my days thinking about food but I’ve lost 6lbs through hard work and dedication. I’m now at a very sexy 66lbs. I’ll walk very calmly by your side without pulling on the leash and I really enjoy working out with the occasional sprint (but not very far because my legs are so short). After a good exercise, I’ll sprawl out on the floor and enjoy a good belly rub or rump scratch.

“Dear PoPville,
Just a heads up, there’s been a rash of package thefts in the neighborhood since Tuesday. I contacted MPD and filed a report as I had 3 packages stolen yesterday, but I recommend folks stay vigilant and keep a close eye on any deliveries coming up. I hope the thief was happy with my… office supplies?”

“Dear PoPville,
The last post on mini splits was from 2014. I’m unsure if it’s too soon, but I wanted to request another post on recommendations for mini splits and local installers. I’d really like to find local dealers/installers and avoid big box stores, and I’m unsure how serious to take the few Yelp reviews I’ve found.”

3118 Georgia Ave, NW via Doubles
After speaking about Aurora Market coming to Park View this morning, Cait was wondering what was up with Sonny’s and Doubles nearby on Georgia Ave?
From the owners:
“We’ve been taking a little winter break to give everyone a chance to rest, and to stay safe at home. We’re also doing some work to our Pizza Garden that will allow us to use it year round. Hoping to have Doubles back open in a couple weeks, and Sonny’s not long after that. (more…)
