Normally I hate these made up days but for this one I’m making an exception that exception will not be lifted again until National Eggplant Parmigiana Day. Stay tuned.

From an email:

“For folks looking for things to do this weekend, they can celebrate National Lobster Day on Sunday, September 25 at Luke’s Lobster with their Lobstah, Lobstah, Lobstah special, available for one day only! [1211 Potomac St NW and 624 E St NW]

Featuring a lobster roll, a half lobster bisque, and a skewered half lobster tail served with cocktail sauce, this festively indulgent dish clocks in at a mindful $25 on the 25th of September. It will be available at all Luke’s Lobster shacks throughout the day while supplies last (no substitutions–but who need substitutions with a dish like this on the menu?).”

Wharf Rendering 092116-2

But seriously, this area is fixing to be pretty sweet.

From a press release:

“Hoffman-Madison Waterfront (HMW), developer of The Wharf, announced new additions to its expanding dining and entertainment scene, where the District’s best chefs, restaurant owners and entertainment impresarios are creating the region’s most eagerly awaited waterfront destination.

New concepts coming to The Wharf include:

Eric and Ian Hilton, renowned for creating neighborhood mainstays including Georgetown’s Chez Billy Sud, and The Gibson along 14th Street, will open The Brighton, a high-energy waterfront pub

● Chef K.N. Vinod and Surfy Rahman, the DC area-based hospitality veterans behind Indique and Bombay Bistro, who, after over a decade of serving diners some of the most celebrated and exciting Indian cuisine in Washington DC and Maryland, will open a new Indian dining concept at The Wharf.

Cathal Armstrong will open Kaliwa, a new dining destination with a distinct Filipino, Thai and Korean menu

● Nick Fontana, Bruce Gates and Henry Gandy, the team behind DC’s original dock bar, Cantina Marina, are bringing a small-format, live music venue and tavern named Pearl Street Warehouse to the waterfront

These new additions will open at The Wharf starting in October of 2017, joining: (more…)

Colada
1405 T Street, NW

Thanks to Courtney for sending:

“signage up for Colada next to Lupo Verde and Ice Cream Jubilee

Back in April we learned that Colada Shop was:

“Named after the iconic Cuban-style coffee, Colada Shop is a concept that blends together the contemporary lifestyle of Washingtonians with the Cuban tradition of starting and ending the day. Paying homage to the Caribbean way of coffee, food, cocktails and social lifestyle, Colada Shop will be a casual café and eatery where guests come for the quality and stay for the company. (more…)

Found
323 7th Street, SE

Could be pretty cool.

From a press release:

“On Saturday, September 24, Found on the Hill will open in Eastern Market, located at 323 7th St Southeast.

The collection began as an idea of sharing various items and furniture that were originally purchased to fill in restaurants as they were built out. Through changes along the way in design and aesthetic, many of these items went unused. Ari Gejdenson, the founder of MRG, had the brilliant idea to then open a store downstairs from the Mindful Office to showcase them. (more…)

angle wingo
2339 18th Street, NW

I’m still too emotional to talk about the loss of Angles and Little Fountain but it is definitely worth sharing the news from Washington Business Journal:

“Arthur plans to turn the space into full-service Wingo’s on the lower level and a sports bar “with a Wingo’s theme and pub menu” on the upper level, he said via email. He’s aiming to open January 1, 2017.”

You can see Wingo’s Georgetown menu here. Think a sports bar this close to Ventnor (2411 18th St NW) can do well here? Any fans of the wings?
