“Shaw Sapporo-style Ramen Shop Haikan from the Daikaya Group Launches ‘To Go Ramen’ Service, Today”

“With fall just around the corner and crisp weather already moving in ramping up serious ramen cravings, beginning today, Tuesday, September 12th, Haikan (805 V ST. NW. WASHINGTON, DC 20001; www.HaikanDC.com; (202) 299-1000; @HaikanDC) – the third Japanese ramen shop to open in Washington DC – and the second Sapporo-style ramen shop from the talented team behind the Daikaya Group – Yama Jewayni, Katsuya Fukushima, and Daisuke Utagawa – will officially launch their new ‘To Go Ramen’ service.

The new ‘To Go Ramen’ service will allow ramen lovers to place orders for Haikan’s signature Sapporo-style ramen over the phone (202-299-1000), then collect their orders in-person at the restaurant and take their ramen to go. Signature ramen selections available to order to-go at Haikan include: Shio, Shoyu, Spicy Shoyu, Miso, and Vegetable. Ramen will be available during all hours Haikan is open for business.

Ice Cream Jubilee releasing fall ice cream flavors Monday

“Ice Cream Jubilee is releasing its line of fall ice cream flavors to the public on Monday, September 11, 2017. Ice Cream Jubilee is also having a “Sneak Peek” Flavor Tasting Party on September 9-10, 2017. Tickets may be purchased for $8 for a flight of 7 flavors here.

“Pumpkin spice is nice, but Ice Cream Jubilee is a pumpkin-free zone this fall! I started Ice Cream Jubilee three years ago because I see my world in ice cream flavors. There are so many other delicious fall flavors – like whiskey, maple, molasses, apple, dark beer, and nuts – that I’m excited to share with our ice cream fans!” said Victoria Lai, Ice Cream Jubilee founder.

· Sweet Potato Molasses Candy – Forget pumpkin! This ice cream flavor is inspired by fluffy sweet potato pie with handmade molasses candy brittle pieces mixed in.

· Apple Butter Oatmeal Cookie – Cookies are new sprinkles! We make our own fresh apple butter and mix it into our local, all-natural cream from South Mountain Creamery. Then we crumble in oatmeal cookies as the ice cream freezes for added crunch and spice.

· Chocolate Barley Beer – We steep our cream with roasted barley and pour in melted chocolate as we churn the ice cream, then we finish it with a splash of local dark chocolate Porter beer from Port City Brewing company.

· Pistachio Cannoli – Pistachio ice cream made with ground pistachios, cannoli pieces, mini chocolate chips, and sweet ricotta cheese. This is very decadent. (more…)

“Dacha Reveals New 14th St. Venue Design, Seeks Community Support”

“Today, the owners of Dacha Beer Garden announced a major revision in plans for a second bar and restaurant venue to be located at the southwest corner of 14th and S streets in northwest D.C. The venue is planned for one of the few remaining undeveloped parcels along the bustling commercial corridor recognized as among the city’s most vibrant areas.

The updated building design was posted online today by Dacha proprietors Ilya Alter and Dmitri Chekaldin in their months-long effort seeking approval of a pending liquor license application. The D.C. Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Board will consider the proposal in the coming weeks. A prominent component of the new design is a significantly expanded enclosed interior space. Nearly two-thirds of the total occupancy is now enclosed in response to concerns about noise. (more…)

“The Metropolitan Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit seeks the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a suspect in connection with an Assault with the Intent to Commit First Degree Sexual Abuse that occurred on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

At approximately 2:10 am, an adult female was walking in the 1800 block of T Street, Northwest, when an unknown suspect approached her, pushed her to the ground and grabbed the victim with the intent to sexually assault her. The suspect was last seen fleeing on foot, eastbound in the 1800 block of T Street, Northwest towards 17th Street, Northwest. (more…)

Update from a resident of the Floridian building next door:

“Residents –

I’ve received an email from JBG notifying that they have issued a “Notice to Proceed” to their Contractor(s). 945 Florida Avenue, which abuts the Floridian is now officially under construction.

As for 965 Florida Avenue (Whole Foods, etc.) – MRP Realty is looking to tentatively break ground sometime in the fourth quarter of 2017.”

“Dear PoPville,

Walked by the other day and noticed they finally broke ground at 965 Florida Ave. Thought readers would be interested in this. Still hoping for a Wegmans over Whole Foods but I think that’s a done deal.”

Updates as construction progresses. This is across the street from the recently closed Darnell’s and very close to Duffy’s as well as 9:30 Club.

Po Boy Jim 2 coming to former Axum space on 9th just south of U Street

Big news for the former Axum space in Shaw. A liquor license application has been filed for Po Boy Jim 2:

“New Class “C” Restaurant with 150 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 180. The licensee has
requested an Entertainment Endorsement to provide Live Entertainment.”

Hours are listed as Sunday through Saturday 11 am – 4 am.

The original Po Boy Jim opened on H Street back in July 2014. Check out their menu here. Updates as they get closer to opening 2.
