DC Water

Clockwise from top): Overflow area where combined wastewater and stormwater are released into Piney Branch; Work to construct tunnel shaft underway; Construction next to sewer overflow area where tunnel will begin; and Crews working on construction site

Update from DC Water:

“DC Water broke ground on the Piney Branch Tunnel, the final major tunnel in our Clean Rivers Project. This work will help keep sewage and trash out of local waterways and make Rock Creek, the Potomac River, and the Chesapeake Bay cleaner for our community.

When we finish the Piney Branch Tunnel, it will hold at least 4.2 million gallons of rainwater and wastewater during heavy storms. Instead of overflowing into Piney Branch, that water will go to the Blue Plains Water Resource Recovery Facility, where it will be treated. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Basically, I had a long chat with a wonderful gal at AWS Summit 2025 (last year) and I was just reminded about that missed opportunity when this year’s conference just ended. I felt that we really vibed and I’d love to get to know her more. I’m throwing a hail-mary today and also posted to the DC area subreddits.

*SPIN DC opened here in December 2018.

Terrible news for fellow ping pong enthusiasts:

“After nearly a decade in Washington, DC, we have made the difficult decision to close SPIN DC. Our final day of service was June 27.

We’re incredibly grateful to every guest who celebrated birthdays, hosted company events, played their first game of ping pong, or simply stopped by for a great night out. Most of all, we want to thank our amazing team, whose passion and dedication made SPIN DC what it was.

While this chapter is coming to an end in Washington, the SPIN story continues. You can still enjoy SPIN at our seven other clubs across the U.S., and we hope to welcome you there soon.

To everyone who was part of the SPIN DC story: thank you. It has been an honor to serve this community.” (more…)

Established 1978!!

Uh oh, Looks like things have indeed taken a turn at Giovanni’s Trattu :( I was only 13 years off

I did see one yelp comment that said the space had been sold to new owners so perhaps they are renovating and/or rebranding? There were no permits on the closed door indicating any work/renovations. Certainly seems like an end of an era one way or another…

The phone number on their website has been disconnected and google currently lists them as “temporarily closed”:

“At Giovanni’s Trattu, on of DC’s premier Italian restaurants, we invite you to embark on a culinary adventure that celebrates the vibrant traditions of Italy, where every dish is a testament to our commitment to quality and authenticity.” (more…)
