“During a time of turmoil and uncertainty for Washington DC’s vast immigrant population, Chef Christian Irabién of Amparo Fondita, and the nonprofit organization Ayuda, are hosting a fundraising dinner at Amparo Fondita on February 12th. The seated dinners will raise money to support Ayuda’s urgent work to provide legal, social, and language services for immigrants in the DMV.

Tickets for the 3 course meal are $150, and 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Ayuda. The menu is inspired by Irabién’s recent trip to Mayan Yucatán. Menu here: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

If the irony of a billionaire trying to shut down a regulatory body that protects consumers from predatory corporate practices in itself isn’t event worthy—the legal overstep and mistreatment of hardworking federal employees certainly is. In addition to a sudden stop work order, employees were locked out of their offices today and barred from retrieving even personal items. Additionally, many employees (as with so many other agencies) depend on the agency daycare (Small Savers, in this case). Musk thinks people won’t notice his blatant takeover of a lesser-known agency. I hope DC proves him wrong.”
