“These are our three three Cocker Spaniels: Griffin, Edgar, and Winston. They were all sleeping in the same pose at the same time one evening so I took their pictures and put them in this collage. They were all adopted from Oldies But Goodies Cocker Spaniel Rescue, and now live in Bloomingdale.”

“This is Harper from Woodridge, DC! She’s posing for her autumn glamour shot in front a blooming field of coreopsis at the Arboretum. We adopted this happy girl two years ago from Lucky Dog. She loves catching the frisbee in our neighborhood park and trying to play with all of the stray cats on the block!”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

We could use the community’s help/recommendations. We are renovating a small bathroom and need a recommendation of where to go to select our finishes. (i.e. tile, prefab shower stall, lighting) We already have a contractor who will gut and install everything but we are responsible for making the purchases.. The design centers I’m finding online look like you need to also use them for the installation. People are always posting horror stories about Home Depot/Lowes so I’m just not sure where to go.

Any recommendations/tips would be greatly appreciated!”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I bought a bigger bed and need to get rid of my old mattress. It’s in good condition and I’d like to donate it, if possible, rather than simply trash it. Do any readers have suggestions for a local charity that will accept it? It would be even better if the charity could pick it up.”

wildlife

Words I never thought I would type. Alas it is the year 2019.

Thanks to Kate for sending from Petworth: ” I put out an improvised bird bath because of the drought–and this morning a raccoon came by for a drink! Then he waddled back to his hidey place.”

If you spot a hawk or any interesting wildlife around town, lunching or otherwise, and get a good photo please send where you spotted it to [email protected] and I’ll add it to the queue. Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Friends of the White Whale Society.

Event

The DC Chamber Musicians close out the 25-26 season with popular works by Brahms and Dohnanyi, and three selections of newer works that are sure to delight. All set in the lovely St. Thomas’ Parish Episcopal Church in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. Join us afterward for a reception featuring light refreshments (including beer and wine) and an opportunity to chat with the musicians.

An employee of Del Frisco’s Grille tells us “we just got told we are shutting down in 2 weeks.”

Ed. Note: D.C. also has a Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House located in CityCenter – no word on any changes for that location.

Forbes reported on the planned sale in late September:

“The purchase price was undisclosed, and the deal is expected to close at the end of October, according to the company. (more…)

Transit

Dan Silverman, October 2006.

Ed. Note: My first and last race. At the time I was a pack a day smoker and did zero training for the race. I raced well. I couldn’t walk for TEN days afterwards. I have never been in such pain. I am an idiot. Don’t do this race without training. Also, don’t smoke. In January I will have quit smoking 10 years ago. I feel much better now. Anyway, good luck runners!
