“Dear PoPville,
What happened to Mama Chuy’s on Georgia Avenue? It’s one of the best taco places in the city, but I noticed last week that the building is empty. Are they closed for good (please God no!) or did they just relocate?”
Back in 2014 we noted the building was for sale. Mama Chuy’s facebook page hasn’t been updated since early 2015, their website is no longer live and their voicemail is full. Not looking good…

“Dear PoPville,
Since there were some recent questions on the progress of Jackie Greenbaum’s new venture on 14th St., Little Cocos, I thought I’d send along this picture from this afternoon. Looks like they’re building a roof deck (which looks similar to El Chuchos’).”
Back in January we learned that Jackie’s was closing at the end of March:
The closure is intended to coincide with the opening of Greenbaum’s new Italian restaurant, Little Coco’s, due to open in Petworth DC in the spring. Chef Adam Harvey will be the Executive Chef of the new restaurant, which will serve modern Italian cuisine ranging from creative pizzas to regional dishes. Most of the kitchen and service staff from Jackie’s will relocate to Little Coco’s. “We’re passing the torch from Jackie’s to Little Coco’s,” said Greenbaum, “and bringing the creativity we were known for at Jackie’s to Italian cuisine.”
As for the planned roof deck: “It’ll be a three season roof deck just like they have at El Chucho.”

“Mess Hall – Washington DC’s premiere food incubator based in Brookland, is pleased to present ‘Ramen World 2’, a collaborative and community-driven culinary event taking place on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 featuring some of the area’s most celebrated chefs, restaurants, live entertainers, artisans, and most importantly – ramen masters. Two timeslots will be offered this time around for the event, with the first round beginning at Noon and ending at 2:00PM. There will be a break for chefs to reset and restock, and the second round will begin promptly at 4:00PM and will end at 6:00PM.
Ramen World 2 will highlight the same local noodle powerhouses featured last year, with some new additions: Ramen World co-founder Erik Bruner-Yang of Toki Underground is returning after a successful launch of his second H street restaurant, Maketto. Myo Htun of Chaplin’s is back as well, and will be joined by newcomers Jonah Kim & Mike Isabella’s shared Ballston eatery Yona.
