driving dangerously

7th and Q Street, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Tough morning in Shaw –
Metro driver told me that a car ran a red light and collided with another and the driver swerved to avoid and ran into ambar. Driver is injured and at the hospital along with a passenger who went through a window… horrible. Thank god it was 7 am or there would be a lot of dead or gravely injured people.”

Goodness. From an email:

Beginning Saturday, April 11th, Desert 5 Spot DC is debuting a brand new brunch service. The new menu leans into the bar’s signature Western spirit–equal parts laid-back and a little unruly–and arrives just in time for spring.

The menu brings that energy to the table with brunch specials like Chicken & Waffles, a Smoked Brisket Breakfast Burrito, and Buttermilk Pancakes. There’s also another addition that feels destined to steal the spotlight: a fully self-serve, build-it-yourself Bloody Mary Bar (more…)

DC Government

From the Mayor’s Office:

“On the first day of Earth Month, Mayor Muriel Bowser and District leaders highlighted the city’s spring cleaning and beautification services and invited community members to participate in the District’s 10th Annual Spring Cleanup events happening on Saturday, April 25—a yearly tradition where the community comes together to beautify neighborhoods. Residents were also encouraged to learn more about and utilize the Helping Hand program, which loans tools to residents organizing neighborhood cleanups.

“Washington, DC is a beautiful, clean city, but that doesn’t just happen — it’s because of the teams of public servants who keep our city clean and the many members of our community who make it a priority to take care of their neighborhoods,” said Mayor Bowser. “The 10th Annual Spring Cleanup is a celebration of that work, and I’m inviting every resident to grab a pair of gloves, get out there on April 25, and be part of it. And if you can’t join us on April 25, learn more about the Helping Hand program and organize a neighborhood cleanup that works for you and your neighbors.”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

Do you know if there is a reason why there aren’t any fruit stands downtown near the mall and federal triangle? There are pop up farmers markets in the summer one day a week, which is great, but I often just want to buy an apple or some berries on my way into the office, (more…)
