“Dear PoPville,

A couple years ago, I randomly took a copy of Ann Patchett’s “State of Wonder” out of a Little Free Library in NW. I have my favorites but I can’t be sure exactly which one, or exactly when this was. Probably in Mt. Pleasant or Columbia Heights, circa 2024. Today I flipped through for the first time and discovered this beautiful handwritten letter from a grandmother to her granddaughter, Jackie, dated August 23, 2003, tucked inside.

“On Friday, February 27, 2026, at approximately 12:12 a.m., Third District officers were flagged down near the intersection of 14th Street, NW, and U Street, NW, for the report of a man making threats while brandishing a knife. Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) – What is it?

Ranked choice voting (RCV) is a voting method in which voters rank candidates in order of preference (1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, 4th choice, 5th choice). Beginning with the June 2026 Primary Election in DC, ranked choice voting will be used in eligible contests with three or more candidates.

RCV allows your vote to count towards another candidate if your 1st choice candidate receives the fewest votes.
