From DDOT:

“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) will begin the annual spraying of the female ginkgo street trees on Sunday, April 19, 2026. The spraying will occur overnight from 9:00 p.m. through 6:00 a.m., weather permitting.

The annual spraying serves to reduce the formation of mature ginkgo fruit, which emits an offensive smell when it falls on sidewalks and roadways. DDOT will use the same spray it has used for the past 20 years, (more…)

Event

DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Spirit, Sanctuary, Silence & Sound, an evening honoring Washington, DC’s musical legacy, cultural memory, and community service. Founded in 2006 by Rev. Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DCLM has spent two decades recognizing the musicians, elders, artists, and cultural workers who helped shape DC’s sound.

The celebration will include music, recognition, community gathering, and a special tribute to the symbolic legacy of Ron McNair — astronaut, physicist, and saxophonist. The evening also marks the launch of renewed DCLM programming, including Second Sunday Sound, Silence & Sanctuary, the Annual Thanksgiving Drive, and the renewal of an Annual Health Fair connected to DC Legendary Musicians Way near 6th and T Street NW.

OK back to playing catch up from what I missed last week. This is a sad. And sadly more, well, sad ones to come…

And now for the bad news…

Thanks to Terry and Naomi for sending this incredibly sad news from Mount Pleasant:

“Dos Gringos in Mt Pleasant is closing at the end of the month. I just talked to Alex, the owner, this morning and she told us the last day is April 26th. It’s not public anywhere that I know of. That place is a Mt Pleasant institution and we’re all very sad to see it go.

(FWIW, it seems like a new spot will be opening up there in mid-May that Alex seems excited about — but still very sad)” (more…)
