“Dear PoPville,

I had a terrible fall off of an e-bike on Friday (around 7:45-8pm) on H Street (I think btw 3/4th or 4/5th), and so many members of the community stopped to help me. I want to thank them, and let them know I’m (mostly) OK.

My front tire slipped on the trolly track (while trying to go around a double-parked white SUV),

causing the bike to slide forward and sideways. I hit the pavement hard, resulting in 5 broken ribs, but otherwise remarkably unscathed. When I came to, at least two women and a younger man stopped traffic, moved the bike, covered me with a blanket and called 911. They kept me calm and ensured I didn’t move until help arrived. I saw a couple on the sidewalk, a mother and daughter, and others call for help. I saw an older man with a young girl across the street send prayers my way. Your kindness is a blessing.

The fire department, EMTs (Chase and Dudley) and police worked to untangle me from my bag, moving me from pavement to ambulance. Props to the officer who held an umbrella over me! The staff at GW, from ER to discharge, was excellent.

I know DC is strong and always looks out for its community, but being on the receiving end reaffirms what we all know — no matter what, someone here has your back. I’m incredibly grateful. I will pay it forward.
