Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share for the regular fix please send an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. AdoPtville is run by two volunteers who compile these pets weekly from local shelters.

Say hi to Elise! This 50-lb., approximately 3-year-old Lab/Shepherd mix was rescued from a rural shelter. She was dreadfully skinny, but you won’t find a happier or friendlier gal! She’s the best coach you could ask for – now that she’s at a healthier weight, she will keep you motivated to run, hike, or take long walks (it’s amazing how much less it feels like exercise when you have a loving dog by your side). Elise’s foster mom says she has been a dream in the home and is calm and well-behaved, as well as good in her crate. Elise is smart and treat motivated, so she’s a great candidate for training classes and learning new tricks. She is wonderful with other dogs and has done well with children, making her an excellent choice for a family dog. While she doesn’t seem to want to harm her kitty friends, she is very playful and likely a bit too much for them (perhaps she can have a kitty when she’s older!). Elise is ready to complete your home and family! To learn more about her and the adoption process, please visit here.

Mount Vernon Squangle

Thanks to John for sending:

“Happy Cleaners at 7th and M, across from the Mount Vernon Square Metro station is closing around the end of the month (9/28 I believe). The same couple has been running it for 25 years (6 days a week without days off it seems) and is finally retiring. They always did a great job and will be missed.”

bus

From DDOT:

“Today, the Bowser Administration announced that the bus lane pilot on H and I Streets NW will become permanent effective November 12, 2019. Bus speeds and reliability were improved during the pilot program, and DDOT is continuing to make adjustments that will enhance the experiences of bus riders along the route.

“Under Mayor Bowser’s leadership, we are committed to improving bus travel for residents and commuters across all eight wards,” said the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) Director Jeff Marootian. “The H/I bus lanes will make the commutes of thousands of bus passengers traveling through downtown faster and more reliable every day.”

Preliminary data comparing June 2018 and June 2019 found improvements in bus speeds and reliability on I Street NW but not on H Street NW. DDOT will implement the following changes to remedy operational challenges identified during the pilot period: (more…)

metro

Sidney shares a letter he wrote to WMATA:

“I am writing to you about a potential health problem at the Mt. Vernon Metro Station. Every afternoon between about 3:00 pm and 7:00 pm there is an abundance of bird (I assume pigeon) droppings all over the escalators. The disturbing thing is it’s all over the handrails and I see Metro riders putting their hands in it every single day. (more…)
