“Dear PoPville,

I’m all in for getting rid of the overwhelming stench of Jack Evans and his pay-to-play version of public “service” (groan), but I’m a little overwhelmed by the number of candidates running to replace him. I fear that Jack will squeak back in with all the anti-Jack votes split between the candidates. Candidate forums ain’t happening these days, so what suggestions do you and/or your readers have for how I can make a good decision?

Given the volume of full-color flyers I’m getting in the mail, the candidates are spending some serious bucks to get my vote . . .”

And while we’re on the subject:

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I requested absentee ballots for the upcoming primary and general elections via the “Vote 4 DC” app. I received my ballot a few days later, voted, and as of this morning the DC BOE has posted on their website that they have accepted my ballot. It couldn’t have been easier. However, my husband, again using the same app, address, and no new updates since the last election, has not had any reply. He tried again this morning on the app and only got a generic absentee ballot request form to print out and mail in to the BOE.”

Nice to see some new liquor license placards getting posted despite it all. This one for Rosemary says:

“A new Retailer’s Class C Restaurant with a seating capacity of 60 and Total Occupancy Load of 60. Sidewalk Café with 15 seats.”

Obviously we’ll see what happens with the indoor seating capacity but the outdoor seating looks promising: (more…)

UPDATE

“Dear PoPville,

A good samaritan jogger found Monty cowering on the side of the road and was able to capture him; another good samaritan pulled over to call us and help coordinate a pickup. We cannot thank them enough. After about 24 hours outside, Monty is back home safe, scared and a little scratched-up but unharmed. A huge thank you to everyone who kept an eye out for Monty overnight. We could not have found him without the help of our local community, who took the time to get a scared dog back home.”

Update from The Line DC’s manager:

“I would like to assure everyone that we are working on plans to reopen The LINE DC. We have been working diligently to develop the new protocols to look after the well being of our Employees & Guests when we open. Our sister hotel The LINE Austin will reopen May 21st as Texas has lifted the state’s stay at home order, and there are plans for The LINE DC to follow. We are respecting the DC Mayor ‘s orders and directions.
Also, I would like to assure our Neighbors that the Hotel Operation has always been compliant, and has exceeded the 51/51 hiring commitment, as certified by DOES. We have over 100 employees that live in Ward 1 (including myself) that we very much want to see back at work.
Thank you for your concern and for your support, it is most appreciated by all of us that are part of The LINE DC.
Crawford
Manager.”

Ed. Note: The Line opened up after much anticipation and not without controversy in 2017. The Line DC is also home to restaurants, A Rake’s Progress, Brothers And Sisters and Spoken English.

If true this would be devastating on many levels. We will be keeping a very close eye on this, for once I’m very much hoping a previously accurate tipster is wrong.

A tipster writes: “word on the street is The Line is completely closing for good.”

The Line DC’s website still says: “In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, all LINE Hotels are closed to the public including hotel rooms and all restaurants and bars.

Please check back here or on Instagram at @thelinehotel for re-opening updates and other information as things evolve.” (more…)
