Adams Morgan

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to hear thoughts on the Adams Morgan tennis courts on 18th street, home of many interpretations given the lack of guidance around the line system.

Are there 2 lines (one for each court)? And if you arrive to play tennis, do you need to pick one court to wait at and hope you picked the faster line?

Or is there one line for both courts? If there’s just one line, where is the best place for the line to form so that people realize there’s a line already. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Tuesday evening I was playing tennis at our neighborhood court on G st. NE. I landed on my ankle wrong and it gave out underneath me. I heard this unnerving crunch noise and was in a lot of pain. After a few minutes of crying on the ground my boyfriend managed to get me up and we started to hobble off the court. Then an older woman who had apparently watched my fall from her apartment balcony across the street came over to us holding crutches. (more…)

From WMATA:

“More trains, more stations, more buses, more hours. Metro is finalizing plans to restore most rail and bus service to pre-Covid levels across the region in the largest – and likely most complex – service change in the system’s 44-year history. To support the effort, thousands of frontline Metro employees will transition to new work schedules as the region continues its gradual recovery and more customers are expected.

“Thanks to our congressional delegation, CARES federal funding makes it possible for us to restore service in support of economic recovery for the national capital region,” said General Manager and CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld. “As they return, we want our customers to know that facial coverings are required everywhere on the system, and the more frequent trains and buses we are adding will help you ride socially distant.”

Metrorail service changes take effect Sunday, August 16, (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

Wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue – yesterday I went to two covid test stations in NW (Fire stations 4 and Fire Station 11) and they were both closed; paper signs on the door. Is there a location where such announcements are made? The mayor’s site didn’t have any information on that matter and it would have been really good to know, particularly as there are no test sites in NW from Thursday-Saturday.”

Ed. Note: I often see notices of closures on Mayor Bowser’s twitter.

Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 12,959 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Wednesday, August 12, 2020 includes 65 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 13,024.

The District reported one additional COVID-19 related death.

· 68-year-old female

Tragically, 594 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)
