“Meet Midge, Bloomingdale’s newest kitten. As a newborn, Midge was found abandoned under a car in Columbia Heights in May, suffering from several ailments. After two months of foster care through DC Humane Rescue Alliance, Midge was healthy enough for adoption. She came to live with us three weeks ago and we’re so glad to have her as part of our family.”

“At just three and a half months old, Alfie, a Jack Russell mix, has a big dog’s personality in just a 7-pound frame. His favorite things include snuggling with his parents each morning in bed, digging for peanut butter in his Kong chew-toy, and his nightly outings in Logan Circle to play with the larger dogs.”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I just wanted to let you know that I went to the 11th and R st NW USPS blue mailbox and someone put adhesive in the top of the mailbox. It wasn’t extremely visible but my mail got stuck multiple times and I had to pry it off. I luckily caught this and was able to try to shove my mail in (took 4 tries) but it looks as though someone is trying to steal mail and I wanted to make sure people are aware to double check to see if their mail actually gets placed in mailboxes.”

Ed. Note: We’ve spoken about receiving mail troubles here.

Navy Yard

via Walters (10 N Street, SE)

From an email:

“Jeremy Gifford and Chef Ryan McGill go way back. 9 years ago Gifford recruited McGill to leave fine dinning and focus on the neighborhood bar (DC Reynolds) that was only known for its #BOGO happy hour. “I knew if we were going to make it we had to have great food”. McGill had cut his teeth at more fine dining establishment around town but was looking for a change of pace. Most important he lived in the neighborhood. “We had a great underrated food program for years” says Gifford, currently focused on his huge sports bar adjacent to Nationals Park.

“Walters kitchen is way bigger than we need right now with no sports” which triggered his idea to reach out to McGill for his help launching SouthEats Breakfast Shop. Launching Tuesday from 8am-11am Monday-Friday the Navy Yard restaurant will offer breakfast sandwiches, fresh fruit parfait, tacos, and coffee to go (Gifford is looking for a local roaster to partner with). Medical

explore data here

Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 13,220 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Sunday, August 16, 2020 includes 53 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 13,273.

The District reported no additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Tragically, 597 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)
