Thanks to Emily for passing on from Bon Matcha:

“After careful thought and consideration, we regret to say that Bôn Matcha will open its I St windows for the last time on December 13, 2020. For the past three years it has been our great joy and privilege to celebrate our heritage as Asian Americans with all of you. Thank you for letting us be a part of your routines for self-care, your weekend treats, and your midday breaks. Though we close our windows for now, we confess that we don’t believe this is goodbye, but rather, until next time. We have been blessed to be a part of your stories, and we promise that we have many more we’d like to tell. We eagerly look forward to the new hope and opportunity that tomorrow brings and hope to see you soon.” (more…)

From WMATA (Tuesday, Nov. 24th):

“Metro is temporarily sidelining its fleet of 6000-series railcars following a train-separation incident on the Red Line earlier today. The broad safety directive, recommended by Chief Safety Officer Theresa Impastato and immediately approved by General Manager/CEO Paul J. Wiedefeld, is expected to take effect within hours and continue for an indefinite period of time while an investigation is underway.

The process of removing 6000-series cars began shortly after 2:30 p.m. and will take several hours to complete. (Customers traveling later today may notice 6000-series cars in service; however, all 6000-series cars are expected to be removed from passenger service tonight.)

The 6K suspension will remain in effect until investigators fully understand the underlying causes and contributing factors involved. (more…)

Ed. Note: The Washington Post reported last night: “D.C. Police Chief Peter Newsham is leaving the force to take over the police department in Prince William County, Va., ending a three-decade career in law enforcement in the nation’s capital.”

From Councilmember Charles Allen’s Office:

“The following is a statement from Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6), Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety:

“I want to thank Chief Newsham for his many years of service with the Metropolitan Police Department, and I wish him well in Prince William County.

This is a critical moment for policing, public safety, and justice across the country and right here at home. The Chief of the nation’s police force is a unique position, with city, county, state, national, and even international responsibilities. But most importantly for the residents of the District of Columbia, the leadership of a Chief of Police is consequential in ways few other positions are. The nation is changing, and law enforcement in the District – and what we expect from a Chief of Police – must evolve, as well. (more…)
