My husband was hit by a car going in reverse while we were walking in a crosswalk at a 4 way stop, right outside 9:30 club – the corner of V & 8th. It happened around 12:45am and the plate was Virginia.”
The driver rolled down the window to ask if he was okay- when I said no, he sped off.

DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Spirit, Sanctuary, Silence & Sound, an evening honoring Washington, DC’s musical legacy, cultural memory, and community service. Founded in 2006 by Rev. Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DCLM has spent two decades recognizing the musicians, elders, artists, and cultural workers who helped shape DC’s sound.
The celebration will include music, recognition, community gathering, and a special tribute to the symbolic legacy of Ron McNair — astronaut, physicist, and saxophonist. The evening also marks the launch of renewed DCLM programming, including Second Sunday Sound, Silence & Sanctuary, the Annual Thanksgiving Drive, and the renewal of an Annual Health Fair connected to DC Legendary Musicians Way near 6th and T Street NW.

“September 27th marks the grand opening of the Marion Barry Avenue Market and cafe in Anacostia (1303 Marion Barry Ave, SE), bringing fresh produce, groceries and a fast casual cafe to the historic Ward 8. The new market is designed as a community hub to provide much needed, convenient access to healthy foods, a demo kitchen for nutrition education and cooking classes, with indoor and outdoor seating to celebrate the rich culture of the neighborhood.
Marion Barry Avenue Market and Cafe is an initiative of Dreaming Out Loud, the non-profit dedicated to rebuilding urban community-based food systems, and supported by investments from both public and private partners, including the Longer Tables Fund, founded by Chef José Andrés, and Mayor Muriel Bowser through the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development’s (DMPED) Food Access Fund. Together, these partners are working to address urgent issues in food systems, social justice, education, and economic inclusion.

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced that Washington Gas has agreed to contain hazardous pollution actively seeping into the Anacostia River at the former site of the company’s East Station, a gas plant that operated on the banks of the river for nearly 100 years.
An investigation by the District’s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE) and the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) uncovered evidence that toxic chemicals—byproducts of gas manufacturing at the shuttered plant—are currently bubbling up from the contaminated riverbed and seeping into the water from polluted soil on the riverbank. OAG alleges that Washington Gas has failed to take adequate steps to prevent the ongoing release of pollutants. Under the terms of a new settlement agreement, the company must install a new floating boom to contain pollution on the surface of the water; install new barriers to prevent the release of pollutants from the riverbed and riverbank; submit to ongoing monitoring by the District; and face fines for any noncompliance.
