Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve lived in the Dupont Circle area for a few years an recently relocated to near the dog park on New Hampshire. In the past month there’s been a man who screams, yells, sings, slams objects outside at all hours of the day continuing for hours at a time. Some of the time he’s yelling pretty obscene stuff (I’m writing this at 3:30 AM and it’s been full-fledged for eight hours ). Maybe other neighbors feel the same, but I’m nervous to launch a noise complaint as he seems very agitated and I’m not sure how MPD would handle this. He seems like he’s in need of some urgent mental health or substance abuse care. (more…)

Architecture

Photos and words by @Pharipedia. Phari is one of my favorite photographers who contributes to our Instagram. He’s volunteered to share a bit more with us from his adventures around town. Phari lives on Capitol Hill.

This stunning 11-bedroom, 11-bathroom Victorian mansion was designed by architect James H. McGill (not the character from Better Call Saul) as one of the original 64 unique houses built in Le Droit Park in 1870s. (more…)

Food Truck

From a press release:

The Schmaltz Brothers are ready to roll – we’re talkin’ a Food Truck offering a Hanukkah Menu starting Thursday, December 10, 2020, just in time for the holiday. Compatriots, Chap Gage of Susan Gage Caterers and Yehuda Malka, a graduate of rabbinical school, have “mobilized” their friendship into a partnership to “roll out” a new concept in Maryland and Washington, DC, by offering kosher friendly food on wheels. Ed. Note: Also a request for Rapid COVID-19 tests? “Wondering if anyone knows of any places in DC to get a rapid COVID test? I know Preston’s Pharmacy in Arlington offers the test, but curious to know what some other options might be.”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Bowser outlined new asymptomatic coronavirus (COVID-19) testing protocols for students and staff participating in DC Public Schools (DCPS) in-person programming. This pilot for schools with CARE or In-Person Learning Classrooms will include in-school testing for students and mailed testing kits for staff. The pilot will begin next week, and tests are at no cost to students or staff.

“We are proud of the very robust testing system we have built in DC, and now we can use that infrastructure to support this program,” said Mayor Bowser. “There is a sense of urgency to get more students back in school with their teachers, peers, and school community, and we are hopeful that these new protocols move us one step closer to reopening.”

DC Health will manage on-site testing of students who attend CARE Classrooms at their schools. Students may receive a PCR nasal-swab test, administered by DC Health medical staff, approximately every 10 days. (more…)
