Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if folks might be willing to share any fitness studios they know of that are requiring proof of vaccination in order to take their workout classes. I know that’s something 305 Fitness is doing for indoor classes (in addition to complying w/ mask mandate). And it was also announced today that Equinox and Soul Cycle would require proof of vaccination starting in September.

Anywhere else in DC/the DMV area?”

Restaurants

From a press release:

“Known for serving authentic Neapolitan pizza to adoring fans in a few lucky neighborhoods, Pupatella announced today it has secured an investment of $7.5 million to expand its reach in the Washington, D.C. metro area and beyond. As many as 15 additional company-owned pizzerias are planned over the next few years.

This most recent capital raise doubles a $3.75 million raise completed in late 2018 and was secured from largely the same private investors. That previous investment led to three new pizzerias in Arlington, Reston and Washington, D.C.’s Dupont Circle opening in the span of 12 months. (more…)

Council

From the Office of Council Member Charles Allen:

“In response to a request for $11 million for additional funding for police officers from Mayor Bowser, D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson and Councilmember Charles Allen, Chair of the Council’s Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, are proposing a compromise package of investments, with support from a majority of the Council.

The package was circulated today by Chairman Mendelson in an Amendment in the Nature of a Substitute (ANS) to the budget legislation to be considered at tomorrow’s final vote.

The changes would revise the Executive’s requested $11 million enhancement for sworn police officers to instead reduce gun violence by investing in both traditional law enforcement and public-health based programs. (more…)
