“Dear PoPville,

What are some of your favorite spots to meet a professional contact for happy hour? My dream spot has a good patio, isn’t super loud, and isn’t prohibitively expensive (like a notch or two down from Quill or POV).

I’m also trying to figure out the etiquette of picking a location for a drink after work. (more…)

Capitol Hill

“Dear PoPville,

We had a street art pony named Blondie chained to an original hitching post on Capitol Hill on the 400 block of 6th Street SE and over the weekend it was stolen. The pony delighted all the kids (plus adults) in the neighborhood and we are hoping we can shame the thieves into returning her, or at least make sure they don’t do it again. (more…)

Federal Government

C writes: “whoa! real excited about this potential announcement!” on from the Washington Post:

“President Biden is expected to sign an order Thursday requiring all federal employees to be vaccinated, without any option for regular coronavirus testing as an alternative to the mandate, according to a person familiar with the plans.

The person spoke on the condition of anonymity ahead of the president’s scheduled 5 p.m. remarks.”

Updates after remarks at 5pm.

“Dear PoPville,

Can we get the community to show Reveler’s Hour some love? This staff is INCREDIBLE and so passionate, knowledgeable, cool, fun, etc. etc. I personally use them as a local wine store, since splurging on a meal there once a week isn’t possible. Go in, ask for a $20 bottle, and they have a fabulous rec that you’re sure to not find at a regular liquor store.”

Thanks to all who passed on Reveler’s Hour plea: (more…)

Brentwood

From a press release:

“After making it through the most challenging period imaginable for restaurants with all locations intact, and now hitting record sales, HipCityVeg, the plant-based fast casual restaurant based in Philadelphia, is resuming its aggressive growth strategy this fall. The expansion will begin with a new DC location in Brentwood.

The restaurant group currently has brick and mortar locations in DC’s Chinatown and Dupont Circle. It will open a delivery only location, which the company calls a “Go Kitchen,” in NE DC’s Brentwood neighborhood on September 20th.

This month, HipCityVeg also broke ground on its Navy Yard, DC location, which was delayed by the Pandemic.  That store will open in early 2022 for dine-in, takeout, and delivery. (more…)
