Back in February we learned:

“Cava Grill is thrilled to announce a fall 2016 opening in Shaw’s hip epicenter at The Shay building. The 2,500 square foot space will place focus on the local community with art and lifestyle events hosted throughout the year.”

Thanks to all who emailed about the coming soon signage. Based on the number of emails I received this spot is going to be very, very popular.

Thanks to Mitch for sending word about Tasty Burger’s now hiring notice:

“Over the next several weeks, we will be putting the final touches on the newest location of Tasty Burger, a local neighborhood burger joint that is opening up in Shaw in early June. Apply now to become one of our very first Team Members!

About Tasty Burger: With five locations on the East Coast, Tasty Burger is an American fast food burger joint that evokes feelings of the 1940s and 1950s when the American burger began its legendary rise to become a modern pop culture icon. Outstanding fresh ingredients are cooked to order in an incredibly fun, laid back atmosphere that has made ‘Tasty’ an instant classic. The burgers are made with all-natural hormone & antibiotic-free beef, alongside shakes, rings, fries, a full bar; and surrounded by local artists’ work, free foosball tables, and a digital jukebox with great music.”

Ed. Note: I’m encouraged by the peek inside I took on Saturday:

On Wednesday we learned the sad news of Cashion’s closing (to be replaced by Johnny’s Half Shell). Here are Cashion’s departing words and official last night:

It’s with heavy hearts that we confirm that our official last night of service will be Thursday May 12th, 2016.

To our Friends, Neighbors, and Family:

As some of you have already heard, Cashion’s Eat Place will be closing our doors after nearly twenty-one years of service. For over two decades it has been our pleasure to be at the heart of the dining scene in Adams Morgan, and we have met and grown to know some truly wonderful people along the way. Unfortunately, we must admit, with heavy hearts, that all good things must eventually end. (more…)

At the risk of repeating myself – looks like we have another end of an era for Adams Morgan. In no particular recent order – Millie & Al’s, Mixtec, Pasta Mia, Meskerem, Pharmacy Bar, Toledo Lounge, Crumbs & Coffee, Napoleon Bistro, Locolat, Cashion’s Eat Place and today we add La Fourchette to the mix. Back in September 2014 we first learned La Fourchette was for sale. The price was reduced to $2.6 million in October 2015. Now a reader reports the building has sold:

“La Fourchette has been sold. Apparently to someone who wants to turn it into a Mexican restaurant. last day of operation will be either May 31 (according to Pierre’s wife) or June 15, according to Pierre.”

Updates as more info is learned on an exact closing date and potential replacements.

No longer active but before it came down La Fourchette’s website said:

“Located in the trendy district of Adams Morgan, the longest standing Cafe Restaurant La Fourchette offers its guest an opportunity to experience fine French Cuisine. Since 1978 Chef Pierre Chauvet and hostess Jacqueline Chauvet have been serving guest the authentic taste of France in the heart of Adams Morgan.

La Fourchette opened its doors, after the midst of controversy of riots in Adams Morgan. The first restaurant come back during those hard times, and still we stand 34 years later. Owner and Chef Pierre Chauvet and his wife Jacqueline made the move from La Rochelle, France to build what is the best French Restaurant in Adams Morgan.”
