DC Police Union squabbles with DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson over protest/police response at his home over the weekend

The DC Police Union (“D.C. Police Union represents the 3,000 officers, detectives and sergeants of the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department.”) wrote:

“Over the weekend, DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson called the police because there were peaceful protesters at his house. Because he decimated the police department with horrible legislation and our staffing now has 800+ vacancies, there was a delay in responding to his home.

Because of the delay, @ChmnMendelson called and screamed at the OUC and MPD staff. There is now a PERMANENT security detail at his home staffed by an MPD officer who should be handling more important matters.

We currently have 3,100 total sworn members, the lowest in 50 years, and we now have to dedicate one of them to be a security blanket for a man who hates cops, while other people calling 911 for real emergencies will have to wait. This nonsense must end immediately.”

A resident, Meg Krause, replied:

“It’s entirely unhelpful to spread inaccurate information about incidents like this. Highly doubt the Chairman called and screamed, especially having witnessed how kind he was to the officers that showed up after the protesters left. A few other lies in your story. (more…)

Any idea of the new-ish Pupatella is already closed (and why?)? There is a big orange “danger” sign posted on the door and the inside has that hastily abandoned restaurant look. The building has been cursed as a high turnover location, so I was surprised to see a legit restaurant move in – was hoping for a turnaround.”

Shooting in Shaw just around 6pm in front of the Kennedy Recreation Center Last Night (Tues.)

“Person shot outside the Kennedy Rec Center (7th between O and P NW) just before 6PM Tuesday. Large number of Police units still on scene as of 7:30; MPD confirmed shooting investigation just before 7PM.”

From an MPD report:

“At around 1800 hours, aforementioned officer heard sound of gunshots coming from around the Kennedy Recreation Center located 1401 7 ST NW Washington DC, 20001. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the incident occurred outside the Rec Center Building and the aforementioned officer located V-1 inside the location suffering from a gunshot wound on her right buttock. V-1 was transported to a local hospital, where she received treatment.”
