From ANC Rep Alex Marriott:

“Many of you have reached out to ask about the recent shootings in the Shaw neighborhood and the steps MPD is taking to curb this violence. To respond to these questions, ANC 6E is holding an emergency special meeting at the Shaw (Watha T. Daniel) Library (1630 7th St., NW) on Wednesday (10/9) at 7:00 pm.

MPD Third District Commander Emerman will be in attendance, along with Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, to respond to our questions.

If you cannot make Wednesday’s meeting, ANC 6E is partnering with the United House of Prayer to hold a second meeting on the recent violence at 1721 7th St., NW at 6:00pm on Thursday (10/10).

Please come to one or both of these meetings and voice your concerns!”

Thanks to J. for passing on the news from the Washington Business Journal:

“Amazon inks deal for retail store in D.C.” at 14th and Riggs Road, NW.

Amazon will join Bluestone Lane coffee, Parachute Home bedding/towel company and a Sephora in The Liz.

Amazon Books opened their first brick and mortar in D.C. in Georgetown back in March 2018 though the Coffee Shop element closed last month. Updates as the 14th Street location gets closer to opening.

Steph with quite the sight on New York Ave earlier today: “Why are there military tanks in NW DC today?” Peter also said he saw “them pass on New York Ave maybe 45 minutes ago.” Fortunately Spooky O’Neil (which may or may not be her real name) responds that it’s just for the Army’s Annual Conference AUSA.

Crime

“Dear PoPville,

I was involved in a hit and run Sunday September 29 at the crossroads of Georgia Ave and Harvard St’s NW. You can find the video (above.) I have suffered greatly as a result of this accident, breaking and separating my shoulder and sustaining 3 breaks in my pelvis, that said I’m lucky to even be here asking for help. The case is currently in the hands of the MPD hit and run desk but it seems they have no leads at this point, (more…)

The DC Chamber Musicians close out the 25-26 season with popular works by Brahms and Dohnanyi, and three selections of newer works that are sure to delight. All set in the lovely St. Thomas’ Parish Episcopal Church in the Dupont Circle neighborhood. Join us afterward for a reception featuring light refreshments (including beer and wine) and an opportunity to chat with the musicians.

A shot from last night by Katie

Steven reported around 6:35am: “Seems like they are still single tracking through Farragut West from Sunday night’s incident. No acknowledgement. Trains have been holding at McPherson Square for about 15 minutes no end in sight”

Did others on the orange line notice delays later this morning too?

Metro reported: “Orange/Silver/Blue Line Delay: Expect residual delays until approximately 630 am due to an earlier incident at Farragut West.

UPDATED: Orange/Silver/Blue Line Delay: Metro has resumed normal operations at Farragut West.”

Capitol Hill

A reader reported around 10:45pm:

“MPD officer I spoke with said there was a carjacking on H St that resulted in a police pursuit and ended with a crash in the 600 block of NC Ave. The suspect then got out, was pursued on foot and apprehended in the general vicinity of Bullfrog Bagels (per the pic… sorry I couldn’t get closer). All roads in the triangle between C, NC and 7th are taped off at the moment and detectives are wandering around Eastern Market looking for something.”

From MPD:

“On October 7, 2019, and shortly after 9:30 pm, 1D units received a call for a carjacking in front of 721 H St, NE. (more…)
