“Dear PoPville,

Can we take this Nextdoor conversation about the Lincoln Park Emancipation Statue over to your website?

It’s time the National Park Service put that statue in a museum and replaced it with a new one worthy of the formerly enslaved people who paid for it!”

Shaw

Ed. Note: stock photo of ticket, not the car in question

“Dear PoPville,

Last night we received our first parking ticket (Shaw. On 5th street.) for a zone sticker violation since lockdown began.

We have a guest permit, we just didn’t bother using it because parking enforcement hasn’t been active lately. But they’re back apparently. Not much we can do until inspection stations catch up with their backlog etc (and I’m not about to risk a day crowded into the DMV) but just a heads up.”

“Citi Open gets the green light to hold 2020 championships in DC the third week in August. (Citi Open Tennis)”

Burned out the Bundesliga? Baseball talks? You’re in luck!

From a press release:

“Three months after the pro tours suspended their seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ATP and tournament officials announced today that the professional tennis tour will return to the world stage with the Citi Open in Washington, D.C. from August 13-21.

The tournament is working closely with local officials on the health and safety plan in order to secure all the necessary permits and approvals for the event. The current plan is for the Citi Open to host this year’s tournament without fans in attendance, but officials remain optimistic that as the region continues its phased reopening, and conditions improve, they may be granted permission to allow limited fans onsite. “Dear PoPville,

The messaging is self-explanatory. I ran in to this Friday afternoon, it brought tears to my eyes, but is so powerful too. The participants silently stood along the curb, some with signs, and took a knee as the bells began to chime, and cars passing honked horns in support.” (more…)
