Ed. Note: Yesterday there were 13,118 total positives.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“The District’s reported data for Friday, August 14, 2020 includes 41 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 13,159.

The District reported three additional COVID-19 related deaths.

· 61-year-old female
· 75-year-old female
· 76-year-old female

Tragically, 597 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

The community spread chart is subject to fluctuation because the data is based on symptom onset date. As national demand for testing increases and results take longer to come back in DC and across the country, DC Health has identified a need to increase the reporting lag time by four days to reduce volatility in the data. The most recent data reflects an increase in community spread. To ensure this graph accurately reflects the most recent data, the community spread count is being paused as these adjustments are made.” (more…)

Meet Bolt! This happy Shepherd mix is approximately 10 years old, but has a young and fun-loving spirit! Bolt did not receive vet care for much of his life and had some initial weakness in his legs, but has been doing great in his foster home, and now he LOVES to run and roll around in the grass! He gets along well with his dog foster brother and has a gentle demeanor, but has not been tested with cats. Bolt has the expected reaction to squirrels – SQUIRREL!! Bolt is an affectionate dude who loves to sneak a few kisses now and then! He will do best in a home with a yard or where he can have regular access to a park. Bolt is flourishing in a loving foster home and can’t wait to find his lucky forever family! Find out more about adopting Bolt (and other senior pets in need of homes) here: BoltandFriends

Sugar loves sleeping in the sun and watching birds, as well as sharing love with her people! She’ll make a wonderful addition to a calm home. Georgetown

1659 Wisconsin Ave, NW

Thanks to Dane for sending:

“I noticed a new ABRA notice on the door of a building at 1659 Wisconsin Ave, NW for a new restaurant that is going to be called the “Fountain Inn” based on Georgetown’s historical Fountain Inn/Suter’s Tavern. Seems there has been some Georgetown lore surrounding the old tavern.”

Zoo

From the Smithsonian’s National Zoo:

“Veterinarians at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo detected tissue consistent with fetal development during giant panda Mei Xiang’s ultrasound this morning, Aug. 14. It is too early to determine if the tissue is a completely viable developing fetus as there is the potential that the fetus could be resorbed. If the fetal tissue continues to develop, veterinarians estimate that Mei Xiang could give birth within the next few days.”

STAY TUNED.

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

My boyfriend just received a random package of condoms in the mail from the DC Department of Public Health. A friend of ours also received a package of condoms last week. We think someone is playing a joke, but I wanted to check….have you heard of anyone else around DC getting random packages of condoms?”
