“The District’s reported data for Wednesday, October 14, 2020 includes 34 new positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases, bringing the District’s overall positive case total to 16,166.

The District reported no additional COVID-19 related deaths.

Tragically, 638 District residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19.

In late September we confirmed our scuttlebutt that Dolcezza would be closing at 14th and P St, NW (also City Center, Wharf, Dupont Circle, and Bethesda) sometime in October. We now know who’s taking over the Logan space – South Block. The owner of South Block posts on his IG:

“Changing of the guard.

Excited and very fortunate to be opening our 11th @southblock location (and first standalone DC shop) in Logan Circle in the former Dolcezza spot on 14th & P st! Robb (owner of dolcezza) and I are friends… he and his business have been an amazing part of this community for years. We have big shoes to fill and I hope we do you proud! Top 5 and Climbing: Local Child Needs Votes to Reach #1 in Jr. Ranger Contest Group Phase

Local rising kindergartener, Phin, has advanced to the Top 5 in his group in the national Jr. Ranger Contest, a competition that celebrates children who are passionate about nature, wildlife, and exploration. After making it through earlier rounds with strong family and friend support, Phin is now in 4th place and working toward the top spot needed to move on to the quarterfinals.

The contest encourages kids to engage with the outdoors and highlights their curiosity and love for learning about the natural world. For Phin and his family, this experience has been both exciting and meaningful, made even more special by the encouragement from friends, neighbors, and the broader community.

Today in Hawks around Town – Deer in Dupont and Fox near H Street, NE

Thanks to Laura for sending the deer: “Spotted crossing 15th in front of some petrified drivers before stopping to evaluate this rude sign. A rule breaker but per animal control he is in good health and should be allowed to carry on with his walk.”

I saw a really cute guy yesterday (Tuesday, October 13) at around 2:45 pm at the 14th St. NW USPS underneath the Municipal Affairs building. He had a skateboard and a very cute gray and white doggy with him. We exchanged looks and commented on the long line, but I chickened out and left without even asking his dog’s name let alone his own name or number! Please help me find the Sk8er Boy, PoPville!”
