“The First District is currently investigating a shooting that occurred in the Unit block of I Street, Southeast. At approximately 7:40 pm two African American suspects approached two victims in the garage of the building. One of which brandished a handgun. The suspects took the victims’ wallets and other belongings.

In the commission of the crime, one of the victims was shot in the lower extremities. (more…)

It was an electrifying start to ArtRave’s 19th season, with a record-breaking attendance of 11,000 people! A huge thanks goes out to our supporters who came out in droves. “Metro escalators are the link that brings customers in and out of stations every day, and a new contract to replace 130 escalators will continue an aggressive, decade-long program to replace and restore the oldest and least reliable escalators in the system. The $179 million, seven-year contract, awarded to KONE, includes the installation of heavy duty, transit grade escalators at 32 stations beginning in May 2021. “Built for “temporary” service during WWI two enormous buildings occupied the land between Constitution Avenue and the reflecting basin. Construction of the four-story steel- and-concrete buildings took less than six months. The buildings were known as the Main Navy Building and the Munitions Building. They were erected under the auspices of assistant Secretary of the Navy, Franklin D. Roosevelt to accommodate a rapidly expanding war-time military bureaucracy. Little did anyone know that the buildings would survive through Roosevelt’s four terms as president and well beyond.”
