“Dear PoPville,

I’m looking at moving to a place in Navy Yard, but the building I’m looking at doesn’t have any parking available. Colonial Parking says a bunch of their garages in the area are restricted to office tenants only for monthly parking – is there a good way to find non-restricted public monthly parking or any leads on Navy Yard monthly spots?”

“Dear PoPville,

We live in a rowhouse that has really bad sound insulation within the house. The stairwell is a spiral in the center of the house and conducts sound very effectively. Many of the bedroom doors are also sliding doors that have a gap at the bottom of the door. Sound also travels very easily through the vents (?) from each bedroom on floor 2 to/from each bedroom on floor 3 – you can clearly hear any normal-level conversation happening in the other room. From Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton’s Office:

“Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), co-chair of the Quiet Skies Caucus, sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas asking that their departments’ helicopters in the District of Columbia fly at higher altitudes, limit nighttime flights and flights over residential areas, and provide advance notice to residents of prolonged training in a particular area.

“D.C. residents contact me frequently about helicopter noise in their neighborhoods,” Norton said. “Residents say that it affects their sleep and their ability to think and have conversations, and that it can cause structural damage to their homes.” Norton asked for a written response by March 19th.

The letter follows. (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I’m filing 2020 taxes and for the first time am reporting unemployment compensation I received last year. There is supposed to be a 1099-G form that I was to receive from the govt but I have not received it by mail or email. And the DC DOES website has proven not helpful on how to receive that information either. Wondering if anyone else in DC has run into this issue when doing taxes this year or knows how to resolve.”

Restaurants

4221 Connecticut Ave, NW

“Dear PoPville,

Is Sushi Para permanently closed here in Van Ness?”

Welp, it’s not looking good. A call to the restaurant rings and rings without going to voicemail. Yelp and google list them as permanently closed:

And their website linked from their DC Facebook only lists two locations in Chicago.

Sushi Para opened in Van Ness back in January 2012 and put lots and lots of sushi in our bellies. If permanent as it seems they will indeed be missed.

Now bring back Taco Bell you cowards!!
