From the Mayor’s Office:

“At the groundbreaking for the new Whitman-Walker health care facility, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that the new full-service library in Congress Heights will be built on Parcel 16 on the St. Elizabeths East campus. The library will replace the existing Parklands-Turner Library.

“We look forward to delivering a state-of-the-art Congress Heights Library to replace one of DC’s smallest, yet busiest libraries,” said Mayor Bowser. “The St. Elizabeths East campus is transforming into a parcel of opportunity – a place for Ward 8 residents to work, live, and now learn.”

The new larger library in Congress Heights supports the Library’s Facilities Master Plan that guides the next ten years of planning for library buildings across the city. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Having followed my fellow readers’ shared frustration with the awful new ParkDC system, I thought I’d contribute my experience.

After two and a half weeks calling and emailing the ParkDC help line about adding the address of my Connecticut Avenue condo building to their system so I could create a guest parking pass, I finally went straight to the source today and called DDOT directly.

On the phone with a rep, I was told that because it is zoned as a commercial rather than a residential street, any and all Connecticut Ave. addresses are not included in their system and are thus ineligible for visitor parking passes. (more…)

BikeDC

“Dear PoPville,

I am writing to report a really scary incident that happened to me on the Capital Crescent Trail.

I was biking last night around 9pm on the trail toward Georgetown and it was dark outside (I usually don’t bike this trail that late but today I happened to start my ride later and I found myself in the dark). I was actually feeling really good because I was going faster than I normally go and I was actively thinking how proud of myself I was. All of a sudden – the Key bridge by the entrance of the trail in sight – a rabbit jumps out in front of me. I quickly dodge it but the quick motion causes my chain to come off. I am kinda laughing at myself at how foolish I was to almost be taken out by a rabbit- when I notice two men approaching me and shouting drunkenly in the dark (coming from Georgetown). Living in dc for 5 years I (sadly) am pretty used to this and so I ignore them and put my chain back on. Then I notice they are sprinting towards me (more…)

Dear PoPville

letter was signed by six neighbors

“Dear PoPville,

Background: I’ve been living in the house here for over a year, and have never had any issues with our trash cans being lined up in the alley. Furthermore, there are several large trash bins and other smaller trash cans in the alley as well (belonging to the condo building). There’s nowhere else for us to keep our trash bins (DC has been faithfully picking them up and emptying them from the alley for well over a year), and when we moved our bins to the front of the house after an initial request, they were not emptied.
