Last week, several residents (in Adams Morgan) were woken up in the wee hours by a ferocious commotion: dog/owner rat patrol. You have likely read in the Washington Post about this group in Adams Morgan that goes out at night as a cadre and siccs their dogs on the local rats. As an idea it seems useful, but in reality it is a frightening event that is neither good for the dogs, nor useful for the residents. (more…)

DC is growing fast. You can be a part of shaping its future.
DC 2050 is the District’s next comprehensive plan, which determines where housing, jobs, and amenities should be located across the District. The DC Office of Planning is working on a full rewrite of the comprehensive plan based on technical research, best practices, and the community’s vision for DC’s future.
Do you struggle to find housing that meets your needs or your budget?
Do you want to see new businesses and economic activity in your neighborhood?
Are you concerned about the impact of new development?
Do you want to know more about how DC is changing and be a part of shaping that change?
DC 2050 is where these priorities are captured and turned into policies. This is the first full rewrite of DC’s comprehensive plan in over 20 years and your opportunity to share your priorities for how we grow for the next 25 years and beyond. No matter where you live in DC, if you rent or own, grew up here or came as an adult, your voice matters. Follow this project and get involved.
When we kicked off this planning process in 2025, we committed to gathering feedback from DC residents, community organizations, and elected officials. From March 2025 to June 2026, we’ve reached over 6,600 people across all eight wards. We’ve also received thousands of comments across multiple online surveys.
If you have engaged with us, filled out our survey, or come to an event, thank you! We read every comment we receive and are working to incorporate the feedback into the draft plan.
We encourage you to share your input on DC’s future. There are lots of ways to stay up to date and get involved:

From the United States Botanic Garden:
“Celebrate the botanical beauty of America as the United States Botanic Garden presents “America’s State Flowers: An America250 Celebration!” From April 10 through October 12, 2026, the Garden will showcase the official flowers for all U.S. states and territories. Find living examples of the flowering plants representing each state and territory spread throughout the Conservatory and outdoor gardens, along with accompanying signs sharing information about them. Official flowers are as varied as each state of the union – ranging from fragrant magnolias and roses to saguaro cactus, a native orchid, bluebonnets, and many dozens more!

Part scavenger hunt, part casino, and part social puzzle game, Casino Heist is an interactive event that turns Barrel House into a live game board. Guests join through their phones, complete social missions, find hidden clues and secret codes, play casino-inspired games, and work their way up the leaderboard throughout the night.
The experience is designed to get people moving, meeting, and playing together in a fun, low-pressure setting. No real money is used during gameplay; points act as the in-game currency. Tickets are $10 and proceeds benefit Logan Circle Main Street community events.

Inspired by the wildly popular Red Bull Stalen Ros series in Europe, Red Bull Spin Off DC invites teams of two to design, build, and ride custom-crafted bikes across a floating course — where creativity meets competition and wipeouts are part of the show.
