From a press release:

“Red Bull Spin Off is bringing a one-of-a-kind spectacle to the nation’s capital this summer — a high-energy tandem bicycle challenge set on a water-based obstacle course at The Wharf. Taking place on June 27, the event will kick off Fourth of July celebrations in DC as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary festivities. Inspired by the wildly popular Red Bull Stalen Ros series in Europe, Red Bull Spin Off DC invites teams of two to design, build, and ride custom-crafted bikes across a floating course — where creativity meets competition and wipeouts are part of the show.

Participants can apply now until Sunday, May 3,

for a chance to compete in front of 20,000 spectators by submitting a custom bike design and team concept at redbull.com/spinoffdc.

The free event was announced at a press conference at The Wharf with its SVP of Programming Jennifer Currie and CEO Andrew Son, Washington Wizards Host Britt Waters, Lance Wesson from Events DC, and Derek Ford, CEO of the Washington DC Economic Partnership.

“The Wharf was created to be a place where Washington comes together and where the city can host experiences you cannot find anywhere else,” said Jennifer Currie, senior vice president of programming and partnerships at District Wharf Properties. “Set along a world-class waterfront, we host nearly 100 events each year that bring thousands of people to D.C. ‘s waterfront and support our more than 80 restaurants, retailers and businesses. We are thrilled to welcome Red Bull Spin Off to kick off the Fourth of July season.”

This fun-spirited yet competitive event will feature teams from across the country, each tasked with creating a unique, non-motorized tandem bike capable of navigating a series of obstacles over water. Teams will be judged across three key categories: creativity, showmanship, and race time — blending engineering, performance, and personality into one unforgettable experience.

Set against the backdrop of the Washington Channel at The Wharf, the course will incorporate a mix of dynamic features — from narrow pathways to balance-testing elements — designed to challenge riders while entertaining thousands of spectators. True to Red Bull fashion, the event will celebrate the spirit and character of Washington DC, with course elements and team designs reflecting local culture, energy, and creativity.

Red Bull Spin Off DC builds on the global success of the Stalen Ros series, which has captivated audiences across Europe and beyond, including stops in Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Finland, the Netherlands, and Chile. Now, the event continues its U.S. expansion, bringing its signature blend of sport, creativity, and spectacle to the capital for the first time.”
