“Dear PoPville,
Last week, several residents (in Adams Morgan) were woken up in the wee hours by a ferocious commotion: dog/owner rat patrol. You have likely read in the Washington Post about this group in Adams Morgan that goes out at night as a cadre and siccs their dogs on the local rats. As an idea it seems useful, but in reality it is a frightening event that is neither good for the dogs, nor useful for the residents.
I have read that the Mayor intends to put greater emphasis on curbing the rat infestation but until that happens we need to do more than endanger the local dogs, scare residents in the middle of the night, and create carcass hazards in the alleys. The latest bout left several dead rats rotting in our back yard parking with no one to dispose of them. Surely, we can do this better and more humanely.
Are there other ideas for curbing the infestation without creating health (dog and human) problems?”
Ed. Note: See Tuesday’s afternoon ‘hawks* around town’…
