Located in the ground floor of the F1RST Residences within the vibrant Capitol Riverfront neighborhood, RASA has been a culinary project in the making since co-founders Rahul and Sahil were attending high school in Montgomery County. The sons of celebrated hospitality veterans and longtime business partners Chef K.N. Vinod and Surfy Rahman of Indique and Bombay Bistro, Rahul and Sahil grew up in their family’s vibrant restaurants, and were quite literally born into the hospitality industry. Growing up in restaurants, they quickly realized that many people had preconceived notions about Indian cuisine, and at a young age began dreaming about ways to make the meals they grew up loving more accessible to a larger audience of diners. 1226 H Street, NE

It was exactly a year ago today that we learned that the H Street, NE Popeyes had closed for remodeling. Then this past August we said they were about to reopen. Well, we were wrong. In the words of the great Glen’s Garden Market owner Mea Culpa. However, our man on H Street, Grant, tells us:

“the wood is down in front of Popeye’s H Street. TVs are on, registers are running. Opening seems imminent.”

See for yourself and STAY TUNED.

The liquor license placard for Sonny’s Square Pie/Sister Bar says:

“New class “C” restaurant with 199 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 250. Applicant requests
two Summer Gardens: a front Summer Garden with 25 seats, and a rear Summer Garden with 95 seats. Applicant has also applied for an Entertainment Endorsement.”

City Paper reports that it comes from next door neighbors, Colony Club, and in addition to the square pizza:

“The menu will also include house-baked breads, sandwiches, salads, and “old-school New York-style sides like garlic knots and pepperoni rolls.”

STAY TUNED.

Thanks to a reader for passing on the report from NBC Washington:

“The D.C. government has ordered the shutdown of three Five Guys restaurants in the city because the owners failed to pay sales taxes, officials say.

The locations ordered to close are at 1400 I St. NW, near the McPherson Square Metro station; at 1300 Second St. NE, near the NoMa-Gallaudet U Metro station; and in L’Enfant Plaza.”

Thanks to Beth for sending:

“I just came across a new bakery on Connecticut Ave near Farragut (1130 Connecticut Ave., NW). They mostly sell pies and cakes, whole and by the slice, but there were also some other baked goods (brownies, blondies, macaroons, cupcakes). The piece of sweet potato pie I got was excellent.”
