Scuttlebutt Confirmed – Hilton Brothers Bringing Two New Bars to Logan Circle – French 75 and Player’s Club

14th and Rhode Island Ave, NW

Last week I mentioned that the Hilton Brothers (Marvin, Gibson, Satellite Room etc.) were bringing two bars to Logan Circle near the new Shack Shack (after confirming that scuttlebutt.) Scuttlebutt on that corner is two for two! Washingtonian now reports that the bar upstairs will be:

“tentatively called French 75 and will focus on Champagne-based and other French-inspired cocktails.”

and City Paper now reports on the bar downstairs:

“Essentially Player’s Club is going to be this raw basement space activated by games with a super playful retro vibe,” Francis says. ” There will probably be some cheesy wood paneling on the walls, some vintage hangings and light fixtures.”

    • Whatever happened to pinball machines?

      • They’re all at Lyman’s Tavern :)

        • JS

Not true, there’s some at Meridian Pint! (RIP shuffleboard)

        • Do they still make new ones, or are they all vintage?

          • One of them is Walking Dead based so I think they must still make new ones.

      • Anon Spock

        They’re at lymans tavern.

If you ever find yourself in southwestern VA, Roanoke has a super cool pinball museum.

    Player’s Club like the movie?

    • SWChick

LMAO You KNOW I had the same thought. lol

    • saf

Player’s Club like Marion Barry’s favorite hangout?

I guess I shouldn’t complain, but I find it slightly off-putting that the vast majority of new dinning/drinking establishments that open in DC are born from just a handful of ‘entertainment’ dynasties. I get that opening a spot on 14th is expensive, and most investors are going to be looking for someone with a proven track-record, but I really wish that there could be more independent spirit. Logan Circle, in its entirety, has essentially been curated by a few mediocre entrepreneurs. We can do better.

    • ANM

Maybe you should open a place then?

      • +1, take out a loan and get to work!

Maybe I will! [sent from iphone en route to bank]

You should complain. I totally agree with you. And the Hilton brothers’ places blow anyway. I can’t understand why they do so well. We need some new blood.

I really want someone to open a Bingo-themed bar. Charge a low cover, serve shitty drinks (2 drink minimum per person), and give away tchotke prizes. I’d be there all the time.

    • kallie

YES! This right here. I love bingo. There’s just something so simple, dumb fun about it.

    • spookiness

Bingo is great as a charity/fundraising event. I doubt it would make a good business model though.

      • kallie

I’ve never played Bingo for charity. I’ve only ever played it in a packed bar to win money. Not saying that’s a bad idea, but just saying there are many ways to play the game.

    • kanon

Yessssss! Or at least have a bingo night weekly or monthly. I was at a class at the soldiers retirement home in their bingo room and it made me crave some good old fashioned bingo.

  • That corner is seriously unrecognizable

    • I Dont Get It

Unfortunately that corner now looks like many other corners in DC.

Whyy is everything a boring bar?
    Here’s 10 restaurants.
    Whyy is everything small plates?
Here’s 10 places to get entrees.
    Whyy isn’t every thing cheap?
    Here’s 10 cheap places.
    Whyyyy is everything the same?
Here’s 10 different cuisines from all around the world.
Whyyy is it all just bars and restaurants. I want something different!
Okay, fine, here’s a completely off-the-wall idea that’s cheap food and arcade games and billiards and…
Whyy is it so unusual. I hate it!

That was quite the conversation you just had with yourself. I don’t see a single post here remotely implying the last line of your monologue.

    • Mike

Do you remember last winter when Mockingbird Hill had that super kitschy “unusual” xmas themed decor? I don’t, because the line was around the block to get in.
