“The team behind Dupont Circle’s Levantine inspired ala (1320 19th Street NW) has converted part of the first floor space into ala coffee + more. A coffee shop for the neighborhood, ala coffee and more will sell pastries, teas and coffees, highlighting traditional ingredients of the Levantine region. House made coffee includes drip, espresso, Turkish and pour over versions, with additions like ground cardamom, rosehip and dried lavender leaves and Levantine flavors like orange blossom and elderflower can also be added to tea. In addition to coffee & tea, they will also offer house made bakery items like the Zaatar to my Labneh, a croissant dusted with za’atar and filled with labneh and the Halva Nice Day a caraway cinnamon dusted halva croissant, as well as scones, like Heavenly Tahini, a walnut, tahini maple scone. “Update 2 Alarm Fire 200 block 2nd St NW. Aggressive firefighting by #DCsBravest inside the structure has knocked down all visible fire in the basement, 1st & 2nd floors. Hitting hotspots and checking for extension to adjacent attached structures. No injuries reported.” (more…)

Can we get the community to show Reveler’s Hour some love? This staff is INCREDIBLE and so passionate, knowledgeable, cool, fun, etc. etc. I personally use them as a local wine store, since splurging on a meal there once a week isn’t possible. Go in, ask for a $20 bottle, and they have a fabulous rec that you’re sure to not find at a regular liquor store.”

“Latina-Owned HipCityVeg doubling in size, opening 2 new DC locations”

“After making it through the most challenging period imaginable for restaurants with all locations intact, and now hitting record sales, HipCityVeg, the plant-based fast casual restaurant based in Philadelphia, is resuming its aggressive growth strategy this fall. The expansion will begin with a new DC location in Brentwood.

The restaurant group currently has brick and mortar locations in DC’s Chinatown and Dupont Circle. It will open a delivery only location, which the company calls a “Go Kitchen,” in NE DC’s Brentwood neighborhood on September 20th.  

This month, HipCityVeg also broke ground on its Navy Yard, DC location, which was delayed by the Pandemic.  That store will open in early 2022 for dine-in, takeout, and delivery. (more…)
