Thanks to John for passing on the very sad report from Johnny’s Half Shell (back in August it looked like a reopening was in the works, alas):

“‘just give me one thing that i can hold onto
to believe in this livin’
is just a hard way to go’

Johnny’s Half Shell opened June 21, 1999 in Dupont Circle, and today we let you know that our last meal was served on March 14th, 2020.

Over the course of almost 22 years we have been blessed with the most mature, hardest working, loving staff. Each of them were dedicated, selfless professionals, and they were lots of fun, we are grateful to have been able to work alongside them. Stay clear of this business, it is a brutal way to go, but if you find yourself in it, do it with your best friend. Long may you run, and thank you!”

Previously their facebook page said:

“On June 21, 1999 within the confines of an intimate 35 seat restaurant space, Johnny’s Half Shell opened in Dupont Circle. Now in its third incarnation, Johnny’s has opened in the familiar Adams Morgan neighborhood of northwest, Washington, D.C. Renditions of Chesapeake and Gulf seafood remain the kitchen’s focus, and Chef Ann Cashion and partner John Fulchino continue to maintain the restaurant’s homespun conviviality.”
