Lumber Shed Dec. 2012
From The Yards facebook page:
Forest City Washington, developer of The Yards, announced today the signing of an additional sit-down restaurant to open in mid-summer 2013 in The Lumber Shed, an adaptive reuse component of the massive mixed-use redevelopment project located near Nationals Park in the Capitol Riverfront. To be known as Agua 301, it will feature Modern Mexican cuisine, according to the new restaurant’s owners.
The 3600 SF restaurant is the latest creation of DC’s Amanda and Stephen Briggs and David Bonior, residents of nearby Capitol Hill and creators/owners of the popular Zest Bistro on 8th Street SE. Zest’s reputation as a welcoming, family-friendly place will be apparent at Agua 301 as well, only now with a Modern Mexican flair. The restaurant’s name comes from a blend of the cuisine, its location near the waterfront and the address of The Lumber Shed, 301 Water Street SE. The menu is being developed by Dot Steck, executive chef at Zest Bistro.
Currently under construction, the Lumber Shed is an historic, former Navy Yard industrial building which is being transformed by Forest City into the latest mixed-use component of The Yards. Upon completion in summer 2013, The Lumber Shed will feature space for five restaurants on its ground level with office space on its second level. The building’s floor to ceiling glass façade will take ample advantage of the surrounding views of the award-winning Yards Park, as well as the riverfront.
Agua 301 will occupy the southwest corner of The Lumber Shed with great views of the iconic Yards Park bridge and riverfront from both the light-filled dining room as well as Agua 301’s outside/parkside dining area. Osteria Morini, a Northern Italian restaurant concept from renowned New York City Chef Michael White, was announced in early 2012 as also opening at The Lumber Shed in summer 2013.
See a rendering of the Lumber Shed here. Earlier in the week we learned a huge Godron Biersch Brewery Restaurant was also coming to Navy Yard.
We previously judged Zest Bistro here.

Anyone know what’s going on at Ras Restaurant & Lounge? A reader sends word that they’ve been closed since this weekend. I stopped by earlier in the week and they were closed and nobody is answering their phone either. Their facebook page has also has not been updated in many weeks.
Ras Restaurant & Lounge opened back in Aug. 2010 at 4809 Georgia Avenue, NW near Fusion and Moroni and Bros. pizza. More info when it becomes available.

1769 Columbia Rd, NW
We’ve been teased a few times about an opening date for Pho 14’s Adams Morgan location at 1769 Columbia Rd, NW. But we have good news – yesterday the owner tells me that “we just passed our inspection for license of occupancy”. They will update their new menu and “most likely open early next week.”
The Van Ness location should open a week or so after that.
Knock wood, knock wood.

1314 9th Street, NW
Back in July we learned the former Lamont Bishop gallery space would become A&D tavern next to Seasonal Pantry on 9th Street. I stopped in yesterday for a few photos while finishing touches were being completed. They’ll open today at 5pm and in the future they plan to open for weekend brunch as well. Currently the hours are Sun.-Thurs. 5pm-1am and Fri.-Sat. 5pm-2am. Kitchen will likely close around 11pm.
An awesome addition to this section of 9th Street. Have a look:

Back in late August we checked on the progress at Mad Momos coming to 3605 14th St, NW. It was looking very promising. Remember when it used to look like this? You can also see the amount of work that was done here. Now the space will make your jaw drop:

Their website says:
mad momos is a restaurant, beer deck and lounge in the heart of Columbia Heights, Washington, DC. We offer New American and crossover cuisine with a focus on hand-crafted momos.

Our unique artisanal momos are made on premise. We offer a fun, new, “mad” twist on the traditional momo with creative fillings, pasta and our dipping sauces complement each momo meal. Our pasta is made daily from scratch and our meats are all house-ground.COME ENJOY OUR SPACE
Guests can enjoy a variety of spaces at mad momos. The first level contains a full-service bar and main dining area that extends onto an outdoor terrace with sidewalk seating. The second level features more dining, a charming treetop patio, vaulted ceiling lounge and second bar. Large windows, folding doors and skylights bring in lots of natural light. Exposed brick walls will feature rotating artwork from local artists as well as several green panels created by local permaculturists.CRAFT BEER ENTHUSIASTS TAKE NOTE

Yesterday I mentioned that signage had gone up at Taylor Charles Steak & Ice (from the Taylor Gourmet guys) and that they’d be opening any day. That day is December 12th!
From an email:
Steak & Ice is set to open on December 12!
– Authentic Philadelphia Cheesesteaks
– The space is designed to give the feeling of “bringing the streets inside”. In Philadelphia, most of the legendary Cheesesteak shops are walk-up shops, outside. Steak & Ice brings the walk-up, sidewalk feel inside with its design.
– The floors resemble asphalt. Manhole covers have been installed. There are street lights, large picnic tables and original street art throughout.
– Hours: Sunday – Thursday 11am – 9pm. Friday & Saturday 11am – 3:30am.
– Carryout is available. Delivery coming soon!
