I wanted to shout out a new little mom and pop place in Shaw named Earth Grocery. The store is replacing DC Shawarma. It’s is a new mini grocery store, owned by a sweet family who just moved into the area. They have local produce and quick grocery items andddd also have salads, sandwiches and said to be serving Ethiopian coffee and food in the near future.” Read More

“Dear PoPville,
I was wondering if you could ask Popville readers for suggestions for a Thai restaurant that makes vegan curries (specifically green curry). For the past ten years I have been eating at the same Thai restaurant in DC thinking that the vegan green curry they made was actually vegan and found out that there is shrimp paste in the curry. Has anyone found a Thai restaurant that can make curry without shrimp paste? It is my favorite meal and really desperate for a replacement go-to Thai spot.”
Another reader asked more generally: “My go to thai spot on h street closed. Any recommendations for Thai in SE?”

I know the two eateries share the same ownership group, but I wonder what this means in practical terms for the business model. Read More
