From the Mayor’s Office yesterday:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser celebrated the reopening of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center and joined Events DC in announcing the addition of two locally-owned vendors inside the Convention Center, Ben’s Chili Bowl and Shop Made in DC.

“We have been inviting people to come back and experience DC, and it is always important to us that visitors are able to experience the real DC. It doesn’t get more DC than Ben’s Chili Bowl or a whole shop filled with items made by DC creatives,” said Mayor Bowser. “Spread the word: DC is open and so is our Convention Center.”

“The first concepts to open this Thursday will be Cameo, our coffee shop, and the Shop Made in DC storelet located next door.

Nazia Khan is NRG’s Director of Coffee, and the woman leading the charge along with Greg Engert, who serves as the company’s Beverage Director. Cameo has been designed to pay respect to the culturally rich and globally minded DC community; it will rotate through a lineup of direct-source coffee and tea from around the world, while prioritizing sustainable, eco-consciousness, and socially responsible choices – from the beverages served, to the compostable packaging and zero waste practices, to the makers with which we partner. From Shop Made in DC:

“As you know, the lease for our beloved Dupont space is ending on August 31. We are sad to have to leave, but the building is under new ownership and will be in renovation mode for the next year. As much as we have loved our time we are also ready for new adventures.

Up until last week we thought we were moving North of Dupont Circle. On Friday morning, after 2 months of negotiations and planning (on the day we were set to sign) we lost the lease to our new Dupont location.

Our goal is still to relocated Dupont and we need your help. Our mission is built on the concept that we are stronger together so it seemed silly to hold this information and burden in confidence. We need your help.

We are seeking a new space to move our Dupont home. Read More

This is the first location outside of a Whole Foods Market for the brand, which will bring a menu of steamed bao buns, collaborative dumplings by Paper House x Peter Chang, along with Bruner-Yang’s Chinese Burgers, a take on a classic street food from the Shaanxi province of China (the bun is made from a yeasted wheat flour dough). I’ve pasted the full menus for you below, and attached photos as well – menus are available from 11am to 8pm Monday-Friday and 11am to 3pm on the weekends.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, as part of #ObviouslyDC Week, Mayor Bowser celebrated Shop Made In DC, a new brick and mortar store and café stocked exclusively with DC brands and concepts. The new storefront operation is a collaborative retail extension of the Made in DC program and is made possible through a partnership with the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development (DSLBD), Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID), Boston Properties, People Make Place, and Neighborhood Restaurant Group (NRG). Just a few days away from Shop Made in DC’s grand opening, the Mayor made the first purchase in the store.

“Those of us who live and work in DC already know that Washingtonians make tremendous products. Now, Shop Made in DC is giving more DC entrepreneurs the opportunity to sell and promote their brands while growing their customer base,” said Mayor Bowser. “When Washingtonians share their talents and creativity with our city, we want to make sure we are doing all we can to support them. Shop Made in DC just made that a little bit easier to do.”
