For the first time in the program’s history, Open Streets is heading to Capitol Hill! One mile of neighborhood streets will be closed to vehicles to allow people to safely walk, run, bike, and play.
Open Streets will include hourly programmed classes and performances, including live music, yoga, dancing, and more! The event is free and suitable for all ages and abilities. No cars, just people!”

The first annual Consortium art show
For one weekend in September, a private mansion in Upper Georgetown becomes the most beautiful room in Washington. Work by women artists, hung salon-style the way Paris did it a century ago: floor to ceiling, frame to frame, every wall alive. Sculpture on the mantels. Paintings up the staircase. Art where art is meant to live, in a home, among people, with a glass in your hand.

Driving to work this morning, a bikeshare rider swerved out in front of me so I lightly beeped my horn. Not aggressively but to give a warning as I had the space to drive around him in the other lane. He proceeded to film me and aggressively blocked my progress between the intersection of P St NW and the Rock Creek offramp (Georgetown) and P and 23rd. From the office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton:
“As ranking member of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today wrote the Comptroller General of the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) requesting that it conduct a comprehensive study on the causes and effects of railway noise pollution. Additionally, Norton asked GAO to propose ways that the federal government can reduce the negative effects of railway noise pollution. The request is similar to a bill Norton reintroduced in April to require the GAO to submit recommendations to Congress on how to reduce train noise and vibrations near homes.
“D.C. residents contact me regularly about the negative impacts train noise and vibrations have on their health, quality of life and even the structural integrity of their homes,” Norton said. “Although trains provide an essential mode of transportation, we can’t simply ignore the harms suffered by those who live near them, which can include structural damage, reduced property values and negative health effects. We must examine whether there are viable, cost-effective ways to mitigate the harms caused by long-term exposure to train noise and vibrations.”

“The Metropolitan Police Department’s announces the arrest of a suspect in a fatal pedestrian hit and run crash in Northwest.
On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at approximately 4:15 a.m., Third District officers responded to the intersection of 12th Street and U Street, Northwest for the report of a crash. On scene officers located an adult male lying in the roadway unconscious and not breathing after being struck by a vehicle. (more…)
