DC Government

“Dear PoPville,

Along 14th st NW, particularly here at N st after the circle, the old traffic lights and crosswalk signals have been covered in burlap. The new ones are installed directly behind it — meaning that as a pedestrian, you absolutely cannot see the crosswalk signal, so everybody just goes off of the traffic lights meant for cars. Meaning you don’t know if you have 30 seconds or 5 seconds to make it across. We have a lot of elderly folks trying to catch the bus at this intersection. (more…)

Event

DC Legendary Musicians, Inc. celebrates its 20th Anniversary with Spirit, Sanctuary, Silence & Sound, an evening honoring Washington, DC’s musical legacy, cultural memory, and community service. Founded in 2006 by Rev. Dr. Sandra Butler-Truesdale, DCLM has spent two decades recognizing the musicians, elders, artists, and cultural workers who helped shape DC’s sound.

The celebration will include music, recognition, community gathering, and a special tribute to the symbolic legacy of Ron McNair — astronaut, physicist, and saxophonist. The evening also marks the launch of renewed DCLM programming, including Second Sunday Sound, Silence & Sanctuary, the Annual Thanksgiving Drive, and the renewal of an Annual Health Fair connected to DC Legendary Musicians Way near 6th and T Street NW.

JD reported around 11:30am:

“just saw about 8 kids chase a man through the street and jump him on 14th NW & Columbia around the 7-11. With all the people running, I thought it was another shooting. But then I noticed they were all laughing and smiling.
They caught up to him started kicking & punching him for a few secs then ran to the opposite corner and were just laughing about it. The guy got up and was able to walk away. No cops in sight, despite what seems to happen on that corner every god damn day. (more…)

“OK, I want to assure my neighbors that I am not responsible for this screed. We at @dcpl are not against little free libraries and don’t see them as competition. Some years ago I found a Calvin & Hobbes book in one that I looked at momentarily.” (more…)
