A reader writes: “hot water heater cannot support showers for 4 people.” “Four at once? or maybe a poorly worded ad for an apartment that used to be Airbnb.” Ed. Note: I like where your heads at but probably the latter.

This rental is located in Capitol Hill. The Craigslist ad says:

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I own a unit in a 9-unit NW building that was built in 1908 as apartments and renovated in 1986 as condos. Currently, our only fire system is a manually pulled alarm in the hallway that emits noise. We’re looking to upgrade our building and units to current code with a fire suppressant system, and wondering if anyone has any advice or contractors they would recommend.

Our main questions are around supply (assessing the water main and/or need for tanks/pumps), building requirements, and individual unit requirements.”

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

What is the protocol or expectations regarding apartments and food delivery service from places like postmates, Grubhub, etc.? Do you expect them to come to the building front door or to come upstairs to your apartment door? I live in a small building with just 12 units and no lobby or doorman. I can easily buzz people in but find that they often expect me to come down. Just curious what the norm is so I don’t expect something which isn’t really included.”

From an email:

“The new menu, titled “10 Years of Columbia Room,” celebrates the restaurant’s 10th Anniversary with a curated selection of the team’s favorite Columbia Room drinks from the past decade.

Columbia Room owner Derek Brown, along with Beverage Manager Paul Taylor, Beverage Director JP Fetherston, and previous Head Bartender Suzy Critchlow, wanted to create a menu that pays homage the cocktail bar’s legacy and the immense feeling of pride for what they’ve created. Pulling from menus as early as its inception in 2010 (when it just was a ten-seat bar in the back of The Passenger), the “10 Years of Columbia Room” menu features four courses of cocktails from the bar’s storied past, including: (more…)

“We have pulled out of the La Cosecha market and continue to look for a home for Amparo. We are working on some exciting projects that we will announce as soon, while continuing to push forward.

Amparo owner and Chef Christian Irabién’s modern Mexican restaurant Amparo Fondita will no longer be a part of La Cosecha. Irabién, whose resume includes Oyamel vows to continue searching for the right brick-and-mortar location.”

Restaurants

Nice. From the New York Times in part:

“The U Street area, sometimes referred to as Black Broadway, is packed with historic theaters and concert halls where jazz flourished and go-go music was pioneered. Beyond a small but growing set of pricier Michelin-starred restaurants, Washington has also seen a younger, forward-thinking crop of restaurants emerge, with Ethiopian and Laotian food well represented. Even as a modern, homegrown and ever-changing culture percolates below the surface, though, Washington holds to its historical ideal of a city built on a common heritage — a place for all Americans to reflect on a shared identity, even in a contentious election year.”

More fun recs from you guys back in the day here.
