Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

To the neighbor who left their fake Christmas tree on the curbside on our street…There’s a reason why yours is the only tree that didn’t get picked up!

I reported it to DC through online 311 but people should know better. Ha! Please help spread the word to other people who chuck their fake trees and expect them to be picked up.”

Ed. Note: Why are people chucking fake trees anyway, I thought the whole beauty was that you could reuse them every year?

wildlife

Thanks to John for sending:

“I saw a couple dozen crows frolicking back and forth across Johnson Ave NW between R & S Streets in Logan Circle on Sunday afternoon.

They put on an impressive show, moving constantly so I was only able to catch about half of them in a single photo. They were strangely quiet as the moved, not cawing at all.”

If you spot a hawk or any interesting wildlife around town, lunching or otherwise, and get a good photo please send where you spotted it to [email protected] and I’ll add it to the queue. Hawks around Town is made possible by a generous grant from the Ben and Sylvia Gardner foundation.

From Republic Cantina:

“Just a quick note about Republic Cantina’s brand new late series we’re rolling out which we’re calling OUTLAW HOUR. Each Fri & Sat night (9p-midnight) we’ll be spinning old classic country records on a turntable, with an interactive element: guests will be able to select a record; when that record plays, your table gets 1/2 off Pico Back shots. We’ll also introduce a late-night Happy Hour, and will be projecting some classic country performances (kicking off this weekend w/ Heartworn Highways). The late night HH will run every night (though the music component will be reserved for Fri & Sat nights). (more…)

BikeDC

“Dear PoPville,

More 14th street construction drama…

After almost a year of construction and untold millions, DDOT has effectively turned the bike lanes next to the curb bulb outs on 14th St NW into long term street parking. Here’s Saturday afternoon with three vehicles parked in the lane with engines off and no drivers inside (see above). Obviously any enforcement is out of the question. (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville,

I am planning to replace my garage door for my rowhouse in summer this year – the current one is quite old and is apparently on its last legs. I am debating whether to get another standard painted white/beige door, or get one of the slightly nicer ones. I live in Shaw, and I have noticed some new nicer garage doors around newly renovated homes, and they look really nice. But one concern with garage doors of course is possible graffiti damage. (more…)
