Thanks to Chelsea for sending from Cathedral Heights.
Hahaha love it! Let’s bust all our holiday decorations!
Ed. Note: I assume that’s some love from the Front Lines – not sure exactly what it says.

This question was originally asked about Trader Joe’s but I’ll throw it out there more generally – what days/hours have you found the stores to be less crowded, if any?

“Dear PoPville,
Have you heard anything about people being ticketed for “non-essential” driving? Are cleaning services considered essential? I’ve dome some searching for this information, but can’t find anything concrete.”

You’ve probably never read your building’s property management contract all the way through. Most board members haven’t either. If you did, you’d find a carefully defined scope of work — vendors coordinated, maintenance dispatched, assessments collected, reports generated.
What you wouldn’t find: anything about fiduciary duties. Reserve funding strategy. Compliance tracking. Case documentation. Institutional memory. The legal obligations that make your board personally accountable to unit owners.
That’s not an oversight in the contract. It’s the contract. Property management was never designed to cover governance. And yet most boards — paying $10,000 to $18,000 a year for the service — assume it does.
Operations and governance are different jobs. One has a contract. The other has a fiduciary duty.

Beyond the management fee, most property management companies mark up vendor invoices — the plumber, the landscaper, the elevator contractor — by 10 to 15 percent before passing the bill to the association. It’s legal. It’s common. And boards have almost no visibility into it. (more…)

Thanks to ANC Rep Kishan Putta for sending the update:
“Neighbors,
Thank You! The bus cuts affecting our neighbors will be reversed!!!
Our many months of hard-fought advocacy have paid off. We heard from hundreds of you. I testified 5 times about it. Thank you for all the helpful input and emotional stories you sent to me and to Metro. We worked hard to ensure that Metro, the Council, and the Mayor all heard your voices – loudly!
D1, G2, 54, 59, 30-N/S, 16-C bus service will NOT be cut. Metro will vote Thursday on the new proposal after over 5,000 comments on just these routes.

“Dear PoPville,
Wondering if you have heard of any DC restaurants that will be making traditional Easter meals for pick-up/delivery? I was planning to cook myself, but would love to support a local restaurant if possible!”
and
“I was wondering if you’ve seen any restaurants advertising Passover dinners for delivery? I saw Call Your Mother has one for pick up but we were wondering if places like Sababa would be doing anything for the holiday next week.”

“Dear PoPville,
My name is Andy, in Colombia Heights I’m known as “Andy the dog walker”. I’ve made a career out of taking the dogs of Colombia Heights on potty breaks while their parents are at work. I really love what I do especially this time of year! Unfortunately COVID-19 has shut down my service and I’m struggling to survive. I want to be able to continue what I do and still have a hot plate at the end of the day, the struggle is real! I’ve started a gofundme for folks who would like to help me through this tough time. I’m in need of help.”

“Dear PoPville,
Huge police presence just now at Whole Foods on P. At least 20 cops including secrets service. Any idea?”
Update 12:34pm “They’re down to seven cars and an EMS unit now”

Market managers will remind all market participants to follow these expectations.

From an email:
“A group of recent Georgetown grads started a fundraising effort called Fuel the Fight to deliver meals to hospitals in the DMV; it’s great because we are also using local restaurants and food trucks to provide the meals. My company (Curbside Kitchen) is helping them source the vendors. Fava Pot (has a stand in Union Market) will be delivering 50 meals to Georgetown Hospital this Friday. We will be continuing this over the next several weeks… every dollar helps!”

Thanks to Dennis for sending. To be honest I still haven’t figured out how to cover non coronavirus stuff. At first I was thinking humor, like that’s gonna be a lot of hand sanitizer. But then I remember all the folks who used to work there who are now out of work and it seemed flat. So I don’t really know what to say except I hope this is a sign of resilience. (more…)
