Please continue to keep your eyes peeled for the Cremated Remains Stolen by a Package Thief in Shaw

Thanks to Shauna Shepston for sharing:

“My walking around partner today went from his aunts Zoom funeral to his ‘volunteer’ job and then came and walked around the neighborhood to help someone he had never met until today. Within 24 hours of the story posting on PoPville, over twenty neighbors signed up to go out and look this weekend … again most of them have never even met Kevin. (more…)

Dear PoPville

“Dear PoPville [sent at 2:41am],

So a couple of nights a week this guy just screams through out the night. No matter many how many times I call the police they do absolutely nothing because he stops when he sees them and acts as if he is sleeping. As soon as they leave he gets back up and starts again. This happens for about two hours every time he does it. What are my options to fix this problem? I know the building he lays on is an empty storefront and I don’t know who owns the building.”

Library

From DCPL:

“Last week, the DC Public Library Board of Trustees unanimously voted to eliminate all overdue fines during its May board meeting.

The Library acknowledged “overdue fines create barriers to access for the very populations the library works to serve – low-income residents – and are not an effective tool to encourage on-time return of library material” in the document explaining the measure. (more…)

Event

To celebrate DC native Haili Blassingame’s debut novel, THEY ALL FALL IN LOVE AT THE END, Lost City Books is throwing a launch party themed around messy love stories. Haili, and a crew of writers she has assembled, will read excerpts from their work, but there will also be audience participation in the form of anonymously submitting messy dating stories. It’s going to be a night of laughter, of gasps, of books, of great company. Refreshments will be available. We can’t wait to see you there!

Bars

Oh my goodness a magnificent, and desperately needed, update about Saint Vincent coming to the old union drinkery/sundevich space at 3212-3216 Georgia Ave NW in the Park View. Co-owner Peyton Sherwood (along with partner Frederick Uku) tells me that they’ll be opening up a retail shop there in the next few weeks (before a proper opening is suitable.) We can expect the space to feature a wine list that highlights small producers from all over the world plus cheese and charcuterie. People will be able to pick out their favorites online a la carte or buy baskets they put together. You can follow their progress on their Instagram page here. And of course we’ll update when the retail shop is live and of course when it’s safe to do so, when the proper opening occurs.

Check out a taste from that sweet window at night too: (more…)
